Hi,

Would really appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to offer some suggestions on a possible fix to a fault on a Tecra 740 that i'd bought about 6-7 years ago.

Basically it no longer boots up first time around (sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to boot up and sometimes it won't boot at all). The battery although the PC is 6-7 years old works fine if the PC does boot up (lasts about 2-hours).

The fault is present with the battery plugged in and removed from the PC and fails to boot up on both AC power and/or battery power.

There are two sets of batteries just underneath the keyboard, one's the CMOS battery but the other set is causing confusion. Would this have anything to do with the boot up problem?. The PC's been pulled apart completely and all connections checked but no obvious fault has been found (not that i'm qualified to repair such a thing).

Think that the power switch is part of a daughterboard. Could this be faulty?.

On the occasions where the PC does indeed boot it works fine (doesn't shut down or anything).

Your comments would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

What do you mean won't boot?

Does it not post? Crash trying to start windows? It might not be a hardware issue...

Hi,

Apologies, should have been more specific on my post. No it won't POST unfortunately. The caps-lock LED usually flashes just before it does a POST straight after pressing the on/off button however it doesn't flash. Occasionally the PC boots (if you can get it to boot it works without any problems but is problematic in powering down).

Any ideas?.

Thank you.

Kind Regards.

I also have a 740cdt that is usually difficult to boot up. A search of the web (where I also found you) led me to believe the problem may be in the connections of the power supply to the motherboard.

Have you found a solution as yet. If so could you please email me.

Thanks,

Do you see the Toshiba logo or anything on boot or is it just a black screen?

If there;s nothing at all then you might have to write off the laptop...
