Need to pick someone’s brains :)

How do you overclock the following? Its not a dumb question really as my last rig was a SlotA with a GFD on an Asus Board.

All the case mods on this rig have been done so it’s time to push this bad boy to the max.

Hard ware Spec:

KT7A – Raid Motherboard
PC150 256Mb x 2 Kingmax
ThermoSonic V60 - 4210
Thunderbird AXIA 1Ghz (Unlocked)

I’ve tried a few things with no success.

Any tips or tricks or a link would be cool. Any success we will credit on the site in some way.

I want reach 1200 - 1300ish so the exact settings in the Bios please pros and cons and of course risks!

Hello, first off I take it you've tried changing the multiplier in BIOS and it won't POST/Boot ??? Then increase the core voltage to 1.80 --> 1.85 and see what happens, try setting I/O voltage to 3.4 or 3.5.
The CPU multiplier set at 11.5 should give you 1150MHz assuming you haven't increased the FSB from the norm. At 12.5 should get 1300MHz (sounds daft doesn't it!!!) But it gets this by increasing FSB to 104, therefore watch it when you play with FSB settings.
I have tried the latest BIOS updates, with some success, but on my KT7-RAID WW seems to be the most stable, on later versions the 12.5 x 104 problem is addressed and enables you to clock 13x100 (in a roundabout way) leaving the FSB at normal.
Playing with the other settings will modify the FSB (which in turn adjusts the CPU spped too) so be carefull.
With PC150 SDRAM you should be able to increase things further, however carefull you don't run the PCI Bus too fast for your other peripherals.
Take it in little jumps, set things up slowly, think about what you're doing, keep a written log if possible, MAKE SURE you have good Heat sink Fan and it's on properly and has good HS pad/compound.
Check what BIOS version you have, if updating BE VERY carefull boot from a clean floppy with either NO config.sys and autoexec.bat or just the bare minimum ie keyboard drivers BUT no memory drivers like himem.sys or emm386 etc.
DO NOT go to DOS prompt from Windows OR reboot to MSDOS mode or use the standard win boot disk.
If you trash your flash you'll have to buy another EEPROM from a dealer who can put the correct BIOS version on it, or borrow one from a friend :O
I'll be getting a KT7A-RAID mobo this week to run as a second system along side my KT7, I'll put the 1GHz (266) in the new board and put my old 800MHz Duron back in the KT7.
What memory settings are you using? Start slow ie. HSTCLK no 4 way interleave CAS3 etc to start with then ramp it up later once you've got a stable system (maybe it wasn't stable to begin with because of these settings).
RTFM (read the f...ing manual) read the FAQ online http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm
(or I can email you an older copy and other files, send me your email so I can attach some files)

Don't despair, try try again :D
Let us know how you get on, ;)
Cheers
Dai

I've got a 1GHz Axia running at 1300MHz no problem, my 133 SDRAM is only overclocked by the 104 bit of the CPU setting at the moment.
:D

With the chip an axix and the KT7A a 133 board would using a 133FSB not be a better option to keep down any problens with the peripherals 10*133 perhaps - very respectable.

Hiya GTi,
hmmmmm, probably, I've got a 266 1GHz Axia myself at the moment, however I've only got the KT7 board until later this week !!
Yes you are almost certainly right about the 133x10 I'll confirm this when I get my KT7A !!! LOL :D

If the SDRAM is rated >133MHZ then yes run it at that then ramp it up later. However the other comments still apply about using more conservative settings for the 4 way interleave etc, until you get things stable then ramp it up (sorry "ramp it up" = increase settings).

I can't wait to try all this out when I get mine!!!

What mobo do you have in your cube GTI??? Is it a KT7A too ? I know you've got a RAID setup.

cheers

(Just back from IKEA)
(HAte the place)
(Emily loves all the play areas though)
:D

Running @ 1266Mhz :D

9.5 x 133 seems ok will run in for a bit and see how the bad boy goes.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Thats what forums are for?

The AXIA Y's have had some fantastic clocking reports and with the PC150 RAM certainly I wouldn't be suprised if 1.4Ghz+ was achievable on your rig :D 10.5*136 & 10*140 do appear to be a popular choices with good cooling  .

I have seen several reports of 1.5Ghz+

Outstanding !!!
What voltage did you top out at?

As GTi says more is possible.
BTW GTi FYI the KT7-RAID doesn't give 13 x anything, you can set the FSB above 100 but not start from 133. When using 133 SDRAM you clock this by telling it to run the RAM HostClock x PCI bus (100 x 33) ...... confused?

I want my KT7A-RAID mobo NOW !!!!! :D  :D

Then the Durons going back in the KT7 and my 4 year old can oc it.

Cheers

The Voltage is standard didn't need to change that.

Pigeon steps is the best way forward at this stage.

Cooling is no problem:

Case Spec.

Juno P6
Fans in:
1 X Delta FFB0812SHE 80mm 68CFM Case Fan
1 x FD1281257B-2A 80mm 3Pin Ball Bearing 45.2CFM
Fans Out:
3 x FD1281257B-2A 80mm 3Pin Ball Bearing 45.2CFM
Fan Controller:
APS 2000 Deluxe
Case Temperature Sensor (Blue Back light)

More a case modder than an overclocker.
