The K700 is a corking little phone. Crisp clear screen, plenty of onboard memory, feels solid and looks like a phone rather than a kids toy. I have sold plenty of them since launch and satisfied customers every time.

yup got mine yesterday and its amazing. not too happy with some of the crap orange have apparently messed with. i'm gonna have mine re-flashed with the normal sony.e firmware i think.

i just sent some mp3's onto it from bluetooth and have been playing with the ringtone functionality. finally i can hear it.

from what i see sony.e have listened to people about the t610's faults and fixed everyone of them on this phone. can see the screen in daylight, i can hear, doesnt scratch as easily.

great phone! :)

I changed my Nokia 8910i for a K700i on Monday. Does the job it is designed for very well and doesn't keep losing connection to the PC's via Bluetooth like the Nokia did (well all Nokias suffer this problem which is why I would never have or recommend another Nokia ever).

I've just been in turkey for the past 2 weeks (Yes i know 'Nice for some') and my friend brought this phone with him. It's been unbelivable. The video and camera features have been most valuable - the memory allows for large quantities of media. Exceptionally good at recording the vommiting episodes and generally recording drunken episodes. Sat mucking around on it for about 15 mins and I was quite impressed (I still have a t100 *sigh*). Should be picking up one of these soon as I'm in love with it!

yup i was at a bbq on saturday and i caught some cracking clips of my mates. was a great laugh putting the clips online for them to see . since then i've had 3 people call me to find out what model it is because they all want to upgrade their phones now.

i've got one of those phones too, im with o2

they are very good phones but there are a few things i don't like about it,

you need very small hands to control the joystick properly, and the selection of default games could of been better because there is not many games you can download for the phone yet, (or none that i have seen anyway)

The Pimp
17-07-2004, 10:40
There are plenty of games that you can download for it!!! It uses Java so any Java games should work perfectly. Anyway why worry about games when the other features make up for any lack of? I would feel very lucky actually as the O2 X1/X2 owners are finding it hard to get anything at all due to O2 not supporting the handsets on their own Portals!!!!
The joystick is a vast improvement over the T6xx series. I have large fingers & find it no problems.

Cullen
17-07-2004, 13:16
sorry but you are wrong saying any java works with it as thats not the case i tired transfering some of my old games to it but some had no sound, and some didn't fit the screen properly and some ran slow

Anyway why worry about games when the other features make up for any lack of?

because i like playing games when im bored....

its things like not being able to set what you want on the front quickmenu and the camera button being the only thing you can set as the right menu button. when apparently you can pick and choose your own on the normal firmware

to get rid of it you can get the phones orange firmware replaced with the sony ericsson one, all you'd need to do possibly is re-enter all the orange wap settings etc as they might get reset. as far as reflashing goes any sony ericsson service centre can do this for you normally free of charge.

www.esato.com is a huge sony ericsson site and theres tons of info in their forums about the k700

did you run the battery flat when you first got it before fully charging it for 16 hours?

i did that and i get 2 to 3 days with regular use of the camera, mp3's, games and the odd call.

the 16 hours from a flat battery makes sure the whole battery is used.

after that then the quick charge works fine.

in general its best to cycle the battery at least once a month (just let it run completely flat so it turns itself off then charge overnight).

jsnemesis

Yea, thats what I usually do, the only phone that has a fantastic battery was the Nokia 6310i. Lasts about 2 weeks. Battery life now is just shockingly low.

Got one of these on the day of release, and I agree, it is the best phone I've ever had.

However, have had soem problems with bluetooth, it keeps dropping the connection with my car handsfree, and takes an age to transfer stuff to my pc.

Anyone got any links to firmware upgrades - hopefully should fix these problems.

The Pimp
25-07-2004, 15:29
NEVER let the battery go completely flat as you will damage the cells inside of it. Lithium Ion & Litium Polymor batteries are like car batteries, if you let them go flat too many times they lose their charge holding capacities. This information has come direct from ALL the major mobile phone manufacturers including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and others.

Flix, which handsfree kit have you got?? Also transferring stuff from your PC will only move at a maximum of around 17Kbps via Bluetooth.

FLiX

Its the built in BMW bluetooth handsfree kit. Seems to be ok if I switch bluetooth on before starting the car, but if not, it just continuously disconects and reconnects

To be honest i dont think u can beat the Sharp gx-30 colour screen as it is cgs and the other mobiles are tft.
I have a sharp gx-20 but im upgrading to any phone i want soon within 2 months Which ones guys

Neoki
25-07-2004, 19:07
no offence but the video quality on the phone is the same as the gx-20 and that is like 2 years old. and the screen does not compare to the sharp gx-20 above

to the pimp... can I have a quote? this celebasy lark is startin to grate...

on the subject of batteries.. li-on batteries don't die if u discharge them... only if you short them in order to discharge them.

If you use the phone till it turns off and then charge, it won't do any harm, except to your social life..

The chargers that come with phones today are the same as they always have been. They are trickle chargers. If you charge them for only 2 or 4 hours as stated in the manuals, the won't charge to their full capacity!

The moral is: If you want a battery life anywhere what the shop states, charge overnight, even when the phone says fully charged... IT WILL NOT DAMAGE THE BATTERY!

I've had this phone since July time and I have a few issues:

I don't seem to be able to use an MP3 as a ringtone, I can play and hear the MP3, but just not set it to ringtone.

I used to have a T68i, and when I flicked the slider (now the volume buttons) to bring up the status, it showed the info and how longit had before the battery was dead. Can the K700 do this?

Apart from that it is almost probably the best phone I have had, although the battery status thing alone on the T68i puts it ahead, just, almost. ;)

Daniel, I bet your phone is on Vodafone. They specifically block the setting of MP3's as ringtones.

The moral is: If you want a battery life anywhere what the shop states, charge overnight, even when the phone says fully charged... IT WILL NOT DAMAGE THE BATTERY!

You will NEVER see battery life in any phone like what the manufacturers state regardless of how much you charge them. Manufacturers quoted figures are at optimum conditions and you will never have optimum conditions outside of a test lab

It is indeed! How do I change that? Can I reinstall original SE settings? I'd love to get rid of that Vodafone Live button because I am forever accidently hitting it

How does this compare to the Nokia 6230 ?

The Pimp
14-11-2004, 23:33
Sharky, I have both and they are both very good handsets. Unfortunately though I tend to use the 6230 over the K700 due to the wife taking a shine to it and confiscating it for herself!!!! The screen and the buttons are better on the K700 in my opinion. Where as if you are used to Nokia's you would pick up the 6230 and be able to get full use of it instantly. Battery life though is better on the 6230 I will admit, but later firmware revisions on the K700 alleviated some of the power glitches that plagued the first batch of handsets.

Daniel, the only way you will be able to change it is to take it to a Sony Ericsson service centre and ask them nicely to reprogram the firmware to the latest generic version. Vodafone done this to stop people using their own music for ringtones in the thought that they would download them from Vodafone live instead (but they say that it is down to copyright issues!!!). Shame that, as O2's handsets are able to use MP3's as ringtones and it hasn't affected the amount of downloads that go on through O2 Active!

Thanks Pimp! Don't suppose you know how I can find my nearest SE place?

Sharky, I changed from Nokia's after my 3210 (i think that was the code), to a T68i and it is natural to use - although it was going from b&w to colour. If the only thing holding you back about the K700 is the change from a nokia system to SE, then just do it! ;)

SE's bluetooth seems to be more stable and more compatible with things I own... (comparing to my bro's 6600).

Daniel, I'm having the same problem, so I might have to try the suggested method. It is most annoying not being able to use them as the quality on the k700i is actually pretty good :) .

Just some quick questions; how do they flash it? Am I going to lose what's on my phone? I take it that voids my warranty with Vodafone?

I have noticed that my k700i is looking a bit grubby and there is some dust collecting behind the screen. Is it possible to remove the cover like it is a Nokia? Obviously don't want to go into it and break the phone.

Cullen
23-11-2004, 18:36
you can remove the cover but it's not as easy as a nokia, i had to do it to mine because i got somthing stuck behind the screen and it was annoying me so i took it apart, if you want to do it here is a link for instructions

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=450318

also i have a link to download hundreds of games for the k700i (about 60 pages worth), you have register on the forum for free first before you download but its worth it if you like playing games on your phone
