Has anyone heard of mega problems running a radeon 7500 on XP ? Flakey drivers ?
Or am I being paranoid before I buy it?
I'm using the latest 'leaked' drivers from ATI with no probs at all. read the forums at www.rage3d.com (http://www.rage3d.com) to check out this card

Poor drivers have always been the bugbear of the ATI cards. Their hardware is frequently superior to that of nVidia, but since nVidia pay more attention to the drivers (and they ahve a unified driver architecture so one set of drivers will operate on any nVidia card on any OS), the nVidia cards get consistently better performance.
Using an ATI card in Linux is a nightmare.
My advice to anyone buying a graphics card is to go with nVidia, simply because the quality of their drivers is unsurpassed. Yeah the ATI cards have better 2D aceleration and often more features, but I've had ATI cards cr@p out on me before and I don't want it happening again.
Besides, in Windoze the nVidia drivers give you multiple desktop support... :D

Use the latest ATI Catalyst drivers and you should have no problems. The vast majority of cards I sell are ATI based & I have had no problems whatsoever with them on a multitude of chipsets. Keep an eye out for R300 ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) This is going to change a lot of peoples minds ;)
Mr Nemesis, just in case you hadn't noticed ATI have now moved onto unified drivers with the Catalyst release & Windows XP gives you multiple desktop support built-in (although I have never used it & MS tout this as a feature) :D :D Radeons also work fine with Linux (Red Hat, Mandrake & SuSe are the ones I have used with them without any issues)

Go to this link and check out the independantly made Radeon drivers, they run alot better the the official ati ones and also include added extra's in the settings etc. Omega Corner (http://www.omegacorner.com)
Hope this might help you! :)

No, I hadn't noticed; I'm not very big on graphics cards, and don't tend to keep up with their news very much! But well done to ATI for seeing sense... eventually... ;)
Though I tried Mandrake on a Radeon (can't remember the type - someone elses comp), and it gave a jittering display with some of the colours coming out wrongly... it could just have been a scuppered install, but my Linux Zealot friend told me that much Linux ATI support was notoriously patchy, so I put it down to that...
Anyway, I'll stick with my TNT2 for the time being... maybe I can upgrade to a GeForce 2 when I build my new computer :D
