i count 5 anti-english statements in this one post alone.

i've never seen a single english member on this board make fun of the scots, not a single och aye the noo, no hints of the scots being tight-fisted, no mention of them all being ginger or wearing kilts or some other stupid stereotypical comment. yet because england took part in the football it would appear that taking pot shots at the english is now acceptable. all i can say to that is some people have some growing up to do. you guys claim that your 'tartan army' is welcomed around the world yet you are openly hostile to the inhabitants of a country sitting directly on your border. some people commented on the england fans singing about the scots during the football. but surely thats to be expected when they know that merely by being in the tournament there is an entire country that has nothing to do with the football willing them to lose.

anyways i think its about time all these football threads are closed and things go back to normal. its doing nothing but create a gap between the members.

First of all, the referee might have robbed England of a goal (goal, not game!), but they should have played better and not invited Portugal to attack. Had they been 2-0 or 3-0 ahead, then a disallowed goal wouldn't have been such a big deal.

I agree that the ref made a bad decision but he is human after all and can't decide on such major things unless they are 100& sure.

I do think that The Sun is taking this too seriously though. It's so unfair of them to ask all of England to stop using Swiss products. This is why I don't like English football, they take their losses too seriously. Just because one man, who happened to be Swiss robbed them of victory, they think that all Swiss are b*stards. In a way, The Sun is being racist for encouraging the whole country to hate all things Swiss because of one man.

First they ask people to shun all things French, before and after the France vs England match, then they take it out on Portugese, which wasn't helped by the fact that a few hundred thugs smashed up some Portugese restaurant and now they are taking the p*ss out of all things related to Switzerland. How racist.

thats not just the sun thats the sensationalist tabloid press, the same kind of thing also drove people to rename french fries to freedom fries or boycott french products when they didnt support the war (u.s.) or when they urged people to support the germans (scotland during euro96) or when they produce voodoo cutouts of football players so they can curse them prior to a match (the swiss before the england match). this is what the media 'does' because things like this get noticed and they sell more papers.

everyone i know has been gutted by the footy but its been a couple of days now and everythings back to normal. most people in england will have done the same and got on with their lives. you cant focus on the few who havent. thats their own problem, let them get over it.

Just got these from my dad's work. I'm a Scot, but was supporting England throughout the tournament. I was disappointed to see them go out, but just to lighten things up.

I repeat, this is not to annoy anyone, it's just a laugh and I'm sure there are some taking the pi$$ out of the Scottish. Just thought it might lighten up the thread :) .

Anyway, plenty more football to watch and was wondering if anyone had any predictions on the final winner?
