Hello again !

It's been a busy couple of weeks - we've got lots of interesting new items to tell you about !

First off, as always , we have some new cases ! One that needs no introduction is the Yeong Yang 0221B (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1211.html) (or the 'Server Cube' for the sake of something easier to remember) - we used to sell these some time ago but were no longer able to source them. The good news is that they are back again and available without PSU, giving you the choice of a wide range of PSUs to have installed. The Thermaltake Damier range has been expanded - we now keep the Black (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1293.html) Steel and Silver (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1295.html) Aluminium models alongside the existing Blue model. The Damier cases have incredible levels of cooling and are ideal cases for the gamer or for those who like to overclock. Lian Li cases have dropped in price this week, and the full range offer even better value then ever !

It wouldn't be right to not include another Silverstone case - this time our latest addition is the TJ03 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1237.html) , now available in silver anodised finish. This is definitely one of the smoothest looking PC cases available just now, and although it's expensive, the quality of finish is truly fantastic. At a slightly more affordable price, comes the Jeantech Visco (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1007.html)which has a similar styling and also features a unique air cleansing / filter system that actually improves the quality of air surrounding the PC ! Another Jeantech case to land this week is the 'Phong (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1216.html)' which is an excellent entry level case sporting two 120mm cooling fans to provide high levels of airflow. There's a couple of additional QTec products too - namely the TC MicroATX (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1455.html)case (a neat, compact looking box with included temperature monitor and front port extensions) and a high performance 3 fan Power supply.

Also an important release this month - the Nexus Breeze (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1208.html)case is an excellent value 'quiet' case, pre-fitted with the excellent NX3500 PSU and Nexus Low Noise case fans. The case is also lined with sound proofing material , so is an ideal 'easy' option for those looking for a good value solution to reduce noise from their PC. The NX4090 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1765.html) PSU is available now too - basically this is a higher wattage version of the popular NX3500 unit and so is ideal for users with bigger plans for expansion.

Continuing on the 'quiet' theme, two new SilentMaxx products are in stock now - namely the SmartDrive (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3840.html)2002 HD Bay which reduces drive vibration and also aids the cooling of your hard disk. A lower cost solution is the HD DeCoupler (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3839.html)kit which suspends your drive in rubber and keeps it out of direct contact with the case, which can make a noticable difference in removing vibration and hum from your hard disk.

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/3839.jpg

For case modification, we have some new etch (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Appliques___Etches_40.html) designs available (namely a new Biohazard logo, AthlonXP, Athlon64, Radiation and HalfLife 2) and we’re pleased to announce that we can now produce your graphics as etches or decals – please contact us for a quotation on this service ! Other services now available for online purchase are drive bezel painting (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1336.html)and a power supply braiding service (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1335.html).

There’s three new fan controllers to choose from – namely the Silverstone Eudemon (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2907.html)(winner of a recent round-up at Tom’s Hardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040615/fan-controller-06.html)) , Qtec Multi Function bay (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2904.html)(includes a card reader and port extensions) and Thermaltake HardCano 12 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3841.html). For those of you who don’t like fans and have a Xeon CPU to keep cool – check out our latest cooler from Nexus, the SXP6026 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2611.html) which is designed to passively cool P4 Xeon CPUs.

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/2907.jpg

For those of you looking to change the colour of plugs on your PSU, we have a new cost effective kit (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1999.html) which includes a pack of plugs which should be enough to cover most power supplies, a molex removal tool and a small section of nylon braiding – this comes in at a bargain price, so now you really have no excuse to spoil your case interior with standard white plugs on your power supply ! Lastly, we have a small supply of limited edition ‘Dusk and Dawn’ (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5481.html)Shuttle mod kits – ideal for systems with an nVidia graphics card, this really transforms your Shuttle into a colourful extravaganza !

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/5481.jpg

Not that we’re ever short on keyboards, we decided to get some more anyway. There’s two new cordless desktop sets from Logitech – the Navigator (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3004.html) and Express (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3070.html) – and both of these offer a lower cost alternative to the excellent Desktop MX units. The Compact Silver Keyboard with Trackball has been replaced by a new RF Cordless (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3019.html)model so now allows the receiver unit to be hidden out of view rather than in ‘line of seat’ . Although not a full keyboard, it can certainly replace one for keen gamers – the Belkin Speedpad n52 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_4706.html) is a comfortable unit that incorporates a set of keys, d-pad and scroll wheel in a device that occupies a minimal amount of desk space. It’s an interesting option, and certainly worth consideration for those of you into first-person shooter games. Also available now are the Apple style Tactile Pro Keyboards (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3071.html)from Matias. These have the elegant look of the modern Apple USB keyboards but have a feel of a classic ‘tactile’ microswitch keyboard, so are ideal for users looking to replace the ancient IBM PS/2 keyboard with something a little more modern in appearance ! From the same manufacturer, we have another neat Apple themed accessory – the iPod armour (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_4066.html). This carrying case is a stylish and safe way to move your iPod from one place to another ! Also available this month are Sharp’s T19D (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_6021.html)monitors which have a super-thin frame and excellent picture quality.

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/4706.jpg

Prices on DVD-RW drives are dropping just now, and arriving at an already excellent price is the latest 12x speed (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_4282.html), 4.7gb recorder from Lite-On. If adding another optical drive is asking too much of your disk controller, or you feel it’s time for the security / speed of a RAID disk array, then you’ll be pleased to know that Kustom PCs now offer a range of HighPoint (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Disk_Controllers_34.html) IDE and SATA disk controllers. Everything from regular IDE controllers to RAID 5 SATA cards are available from stock now !

We also will have limited stocks of ‘Enhanced Bandwidth’ (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5236.html)OCZ RAM this coming Friday – ideal for users who demand maximum performance in memory intensive applications, but have no need or intention of overclocking their processor bus speed. Also available now is Shuttle’s PN15 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5480.html) 802.11g 54mb Wireless networking add on, designed to install inside the Shuttle XPC barebones systems without using a PCI slot.

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/5236.jpg

Lastly , a few little miscellaneous items – namely internal InfraRed IRDA (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5442.html)adapters, Digital Audio (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5557.html) output brackets for Asus P4P800 Deluxe / VM motherboards, and USB2.0 File Transfer cables (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3440.html) are also all in stock now.

That’s us for this week !

Graeme ... with the PSU braiding is it possible to specify either extensions or having molex connectors at specific distances from the PSU or extraneous molexes removed? I am sure that I am not the only person who has an excess of molexes in the wrong place and a scarcity where I need them ... I have three or four molex going spare and others with y-splitters because of the placement of my drives and other items.

Regards

Ah, good question. Would certainly look into it - could you email me any exact requirements and I'll see what can be worked out?

I guess that would involve voiding of the manufactures warranty though...?

But as with any case modding that is always likely to be the case ... Graeme I'll let you know over the next couple of days what I maight need once I've re-discovered my tape measure.

Even removing molexs to braid will void the warranty.

Seriously thinking about a speedpad - is that just a thumbrest on the bottom side of it, or is it a button/trigger of any sort?

Need a UV tube so when you've got them both in I might place an order... :D

I had the previous Nostromo n50 speedpad. Found it to be useless as when you pressed 3 buttons at the same time (like forward left and a key for walk/run) or more it activated a 4th button. Dunno if this was a software error or hardware problem but last time I checked Belkin's site they still hadn't addressed it. Was so hoping to use this instead of a keyboard as they are very comfortable to use. I'd just check to see the new one doesn't suffer the same flaw as the original.

I think it's a button but can't remember off-hand - could you send a quick email over to sales@kustompcs.co.uk and I will check for you tomorrow? We have one on display already so it will be easy to confirm.

Could also arrange to test the 3 button issue mentioned by Arris.

Arris I have the n50 and it exhibits the sort of behavoir you describe. It is however only a problem with one button. As there is so many there is no problem for me just not using that specific button.

Its a hardware fault so belkin couldnt fix it .

I used mine in every game I play and love it. I can't play without it .

It will take some learning though it took me about a month till it was second nature to use it. But once you have its great. I use a kensington gel wrist mat thing underneath it for extra comfyness :D

I thought about getting the n52 but I decided against it as I dont need the extra buttons and I've heard they may not be as well built as the orginals but I havent compared them side by side tho.

Hmmm maybe the fixed it somewhat with a software patch because I mapped out which sets of 3 buttons pressed together activated which 4th button and I'm sure there were at least 3 different combinations that activated a 4th button. That said the other combinations were less likely to be pressed when using the device. Unfortunately I was so disappointed with the device that its not at the back of a drawer ;)

As far as I know it was only the one combo that cause this . basically the button that was activated was the button labelled 2. I've got all the others mapped and have been using it for almost 2years now and have never had any other instances of the fault :)

i've never even seen that fault on my n50. mind you, i only really play ut/2k3/2k4 so it might not kick in....

The problem presented itself to me when I used it for Counter-strike.
Pressing a button for crouch and moving forward to the left. Even in the configuration tool you can see it highlighting another of the keys as being activated.
