Im after getin a new mobo, i currently have a Gigabyte GA7DXR which is ok but im after THE BEST, its got to support DDR & Raid and has to be future proof. Im upgrading my system from top to bottom, tomorrow i will be getin my PC60 with plexyglass and a 420w psu. I should be gettin my mobo in a few weeks providing i've made my mind up so please help me decide

epox make quite good boards, try the Epox 8K7A DDR RAID or the Epox 8KHA+ DDR (Socket A).

Epox are ok but the 8K7A has only 2 dimm slots if i'm not mistaken, whitch is not enough where as the 8KHA has 3 whitch is good but i want 4.
:D

they are stable boards and if you get your ram changed to large modules, then you can easily get enough onto these boards.

Epox are definitely fantastic performers, but 8kha+ doesnt have onboard raid and has 3 dimm slots (which is enough anyway though!)

the asus a7v266-e is a good board, but not as tweakable as epox... it has onboard RAID though , so is a good option.

If I were buying a Athlon DDR RAID mobo this would be the one I would go for, 4 DIMM Slots, Ultra ATA/133 RAID controller...

http://www.abit.com.tw/eng/product/mb/kr7a-raid.gif ABIT KR7A-RAID (http://www.abit.com.tw/eng/product/mb/kr7a-raid.htm)

I didn't know that the Epox has no onboard raid thanks for pointing that out though I might still take a look at it. The Asus is ok but what do you think about the Abit KR7A-RAID?

Cheers Graeme*Kustom :)

Your best bet for finding info on the mobo I suggested is to search google for "Abit KR7A-RAID" review. J

No that question was for aBe. Ive found enough info on the board you sugested, as i said it's one i had in mind it looks like its the one im'e getin unless someting newer and better comes out soon.

The ABIT KR7A-R has superbe features such as:-
o/b raid,
DDR,
4 dimm slots,
6 pci slots,
The VIA KT266A which is the fastest AMD chipset around (backed-up by Toms Hardware),
Max multiplyer= 14 (i don't know what that means but it must be something good),
Four channels of Bus Master IDE Ports supporting up to 8 Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133( RAID 0 /1/0+1), x4AGP, ATA133 Support

The only things it does not have is that it does not support PC2400 DDR dimm's and has no o/b sound whitch we have come to expect as standard these days, it's a bugger but o/b sound is rubbish anyway. :D

Means it should support upto 133 x 14 (1862MHz) Athlon processors. J

Thanks for the info mate.

I just found out that it's claiming the no1 spot on a lot of the benchmarks as well.

The thing that lets the ABIT down is the price plus the fact tha thers no o/b sound.

Yes but Abit charge for a premium cos they're stable and nice overclocking boards around!

Oh this board is for the enthusiasts and hardcore overclocker!
So no onboard sound etc. :p

If you want multimedia features may I suggest you get either a NForce or XP333 or Soyo Dragon plus.

I have an Abit SA6 motherboard and I have to say I'm impressed with it. Very stable, high performing board... even if I did pay a small price premium at the time, :) It does what a board should do, you forget its there, it just does what it is supposed to do. James

I would recommend an EPOX board such as the "8KTA3+" or the "EPoX EP-8K7A+ with DDR AND RIAD"
Epox boards also have post diagnostic LEDS
