View Full Version : Shuttle SV24 Barebones Questions
Hi i really like this wee PC, will be ace for playing DVDs and mp3s.
What is the front bezel made of in the pic it looks like steel i assume its plastic?
Does it have a PSU, if so how noisy is it?
What graphical outputs does it have, it sounds like it will work with a TV(oohhh i hope it does)
Cheers for the help...hopefully this will be my Xmas pressie!!!

Hey PQ
It's an aluminium case, so like lian li or coolermaster, front bezel is alu. buttons are plastic though.
It has SVHS and silver output.
We'll be able to offer a new range of matching monitors and drives in the next week or two, and will release our own SV24+ model kitted out with blue LEDs and quieter fans.
We'll also being trying out a PCI GeForceMX400 in there tomorrow to see what happens... so many possibilities !
I have just ordered one (from elsewhere sorry :( ) I ordered a creative gf2mx pci card to go with it or there is an elsa card that is pci .
The psu is a 145watter from memory :)

This Mini case/system is outstanding!!!!
Thomas the CPU fan is quieter, runs at 5000rpm instead of 5500 of the original, and no noticeable temp increase.
The system is still a little noisy but doesn't have the whines now, so I'm going to experiment with some power resistors on the 12v lines, 10 to 20 ohms should work ok, I'll let you know .....
I can't decide wether to have my beige DVD or the Black Sony CD-RW in the system! Choices, choices
Thomas I WANT a gf2 mx too !!!!! :D , so order me one please and I'll either buy it or swap you the mobo+cpu for it, let me know in four days if you want the KT7-RAID + Duron 800, otherwise Dead_One says he'll have it.
Cheers

I'd better check my mail!!!
Is the Shop open on Sunday???

I have ordered a beige dvd drive and I am going to stealth it instead that way it will look sweeeet.
You could stick a pabst fan in and there is an ultra quiet cooler I think that will fit :D
Hey Thomas.
If i order one of these from kustom will you be able to get me a P3 1gig, HD and RAm for the inside?

we can do, only problem is that you have to order by cheque in the post or bank transfer... can't take c/c over phone or web for cpus etc

hehe, my Shuttle FAN HEATER is now up and running!!!
1.1GHz Celeron
512Mb SDRAM
GeoForce 2 MX 400 PCI Grafix
20Gb HDD
:D
It runs a little warm, but hey, I've just turned the playrooms radiator off !!!
It does run everything about 5 or more degrees C than my other systems, and playing Q3 Team Arena for 20mins has been showing 51 C on return to Windows .... hahahaha.
Cant wait to take it to the LAN on Saturday.
CU, and Thanks G and esp. Thomas for the GFX card swap.
Dai
sounds a nice little system dai, i'm gonna be re-doing my pia soon, second i get some money.
Enjoy your system tho!

Dai have a look at the grilles on the inside of the power supply, in tonis comp (which ran a bit warm) I bent these grills to allow more air to be sucked out of the case and dropped more than 3 c average. Free cooling mod! :)
Dai, what 3DMark 2001 score are you getting with the celeron 1100 and G/Force? Have you tested it with the onboard video?
Cheers!

Hi Guys,
The Fan Heater is humming along nicely, keeping the frost off the window here, I ran 3D Mark 2001 on the system with the onboard grafix and it was something horrendous like 214 hahahahahaha
With the Celery 1.1GHz and the GF2 MX 400 it is 1920 which suits me just fine!!!
I think Thomas said that running the same GFX can in theirs with a P3 1GHz it was 2100 or something, you'll have to ask Tom, this also may be due to the RAM running at 133 (?).
The problem with heat seems to be the PSU which is in the lower front of the case, the hot air is pumped out of the side of the PSU into the case! and then has to travel from there to the top rear to the exhaust fan, why they did this I don't know, but I intend to change that. I'll either:-
make some mini ducting to get the air directly from PSU to rear fan
make an exhaust near the PSU itself
or
duct it out the front.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Figures for running SandraSoft2001 burn-in setting the CPU and memory on continuous, after 20 mins with the case on gives about 55C !!!!!!
with the cover off it tops out at around 44C, which is obviously a huge difference and something needs to be done.
Appart from this I am very pleased/impressed with the system, and have already taken it on my travels !!!!
Anything else??
Cheers
Dai
PS Why on earth did they do that with the PSU???????? Stooopid

Just run 3D Mark 2001 at 800 x 600 all other settings the same and get 2418.
I've found a nicer version of this case, :)

Hi,
Looks neat too, but much bigger case,
I do like the idea of the PSU at the rear of case and easily removeable:

Can you fit a fast PCI grafix card though?

not much bigger at all
dimenions of Shuttle
190x260x160mm (w x d x h)
dimensions of Pandora
225mm x 225mm x 225mm
which makes it 3.25cm wider, 3.5cm less deep and 8.5cm higher.

Yeah well, when you're trying to get something that's as small as can be the 8.5cm extra height is huge :D
The extra 5¼ bay is not really needed in a minimal system IMHO.
You don't actually need the 3½ bay, but I'll use mine for an extra Hard disk :)
For the upcoming LAN I'm going to put my 2 30Gb ATA100 IBM 75GXPs in.
It does look nice, but is quite a lot bigger.
Dai
PS These are my opinions, you're entitled to yours ! (You should see what I've been carting to the last few LANs !!!! hahahahaha :D
And I think I can tint it any colour anyway :)

hehe :D
LOL Tami
BTW the PSU is so small there's no room to do anything inside it!!!
Lengthen the psu cable and make it external.
Next hehe :)

WOW yeah!!!
If it's a Shuttle system that would make the PSU a Booster !!!!!
hahahaha :D
Its a computer,
But not as we know it Jim
