After extensive talks with graeme about this problem i am still non the wiser...

So I have decided to see if anyone else can solve the problem...

I am planning on building a big system (See specs below) which will use two cases... The Antec 1480B with dual power supply Antec (http://www.antec-inc.com) and an ATC-101 case. The point of this is too house all the storage and guts of the computer in the server case and just have the optical drives in the ATC case. Hence the problem, how too connect the optical drives (CD-RW, DVD) to the motherboard in the server case.

I am sure some genius will come up with a solution...

Here are the specs...
Antec 1480B File Server Case
Dual 400w (800W) Hot-Swappable Power Supply
Tayan Thunder K7 (S2462) Motherboard 266FSB
Dual AMD Athlon 1.2GHz DDR 266FSB Processors
GlobalWin CAK38 CPU Fan
GlobalWin I-Storm
GlobalWin CAF12 120mm Card Cooler
Digi-Doc 5 Thermal Control Unit
3 GB Kingston [Samsung] PC2100 ECC Registered DDR SDRAM
2 x IBM Deskstar 60GXP 61.5GB UDMA100 Hard Disks
Asus V8200 GeForce3 Deluxe Graphics Card w/ VR 3D Glasses
Hercules Game Theater XP Sound Card w/ External Rack
Hauppauge! Win TV Primio
Gigabit EtherLink Server Card 3C985B-SX
EtherLink 10/100 with 3XP Processor for 56Bit Encryption

Then in an Coolermaster ATC-101 Case:
2x Teac 3.5" Black Floppy Disk Drive
Pioneer DVD-106 Black Region Free!
IOMEGA 1.3GB MAGNETO OPTICAL DRIVE (INTERNAL)
SONY CRX160E CD-RW KIT
Pioneer Black DVD-RAM Drive

External Components:
Sony AIT Library 1.5TB [3.9 TB Compressed]
LOGITECH CORDLESS DESKTOP PRO KEYBOARD + Mouse
IOMEGA ZIP 250MB USB EXTERNAL DRIVE (HOST POWERED)
Canon CanoScan N1220U USB Flatbed Scanner
Floor Standing Tanoy Revolution R2 Speakers
Video Logic DigiTheatre Speakers
Paradigm Servo 15 Sub Woofer
Cambridge Audio M1+ Touch Screen Remote
Sennheiser HD580 Headphones
Alto AM1 Amplifier
4x 1000BaseSX Fibre Gigabit Rackmount Switch
Security Cage To House The Server and Switch
PIONEER PDP-502MXE 50" PLASMA DISPLAY SCREEN
PIONEER 50" SPEAKERS X2
PIONEER 50" DESKTOP STAND

All this should cost around £35-40,000

So please help!

Thanx

Well, my suggestion this far :

Have the Coolermaster fitted with a basic mobo and CPU and all the optical drives installed - then have this machine hooked to the 'main' computer by a Gigabit Ethernet link (nice and quick!) so that the drives are shared. This means that all the optical drives can be controlled from the main machine with no loss of speed or reliabaility, and that there is no huge bulky box on the desk, only a neat looking midi tower. The remote machine could be controlled by means of a VNC set-up so there is no need for messy KVMs.

So that's your starting point, someone come up with a better idea than me, if you do you can have a job :)
(don't hold me to that one btw!)

Thats all well but you have to run the system as well and you have all the crap of setting up a network and all that crap.

What you need is a interface off a external box unit ?

hmmm...

I know Lian Li do Alu External boxs with 5 5.25 and 3.5 bays.

So you can either mod the 101 with the interface or get a propper external box, heres the link to the external boxes, they look very nice and they would be better for your needs better ;)

use either lvd scsi, very quick, long cables.
or get a scsi -> ide converter for the box. http://www.span.com/system/index.htm
they do loads of stuff.
