What the term rpm means when talking about hard drives.....?

rpm stands for revolutions per minute ;)

usually 5400, 7200 (ide and scsi)or 10000 (scsi). hope this helps!

basically the faster the drive spins, means that seek times will be more responsive, and a faster drive will read more data in a given time than a slower drive.

The 10,000 rpm SCSI Cheetah I installed yesterday rocks my Barracuda's pants off.

Pity I wasn't installing it on my own comp... :( but that will all be remedied when I remortgage my sould and build myself a new PC with that lovely SCSI card someone left lying around the office...

things will change soon, Serial ATA has almost double the data rates of the best IDE interface u can get. matter of months now

When SATA is released it will only be operating at upto 150mb or to the limit of the mobo, then eventually the speed will be upped to 300, and then 600 by the year 2007 supposedly.
