ok, i am currently running the Creative soundblaster PCI 128 sound card, and i have had this card since it came out and i was thinking it was time for an update as i have now compiled over 5 GB of mp3's and i want a device that justifies that amount of music

i run win2k (incase thats a factor for a new card)

can anyone suggest a decent card to get for a person with a moderate budget(nothing over £100!!!!!)
ruffly £50 would be brill!

cheers

I`ve got a SonicFury now, sold my Creative SB Live! a while back - the creative card doesnt come close.

The SonicFury has excellent sound quality (really low noise levels) and a 10band equaliser to let you tweak your sound nicely.

And plus the drivers for Win2k are a lot better,

Try

Its just the sonic fury you would be looking at oem or retail, the synth is for the music makers and changers mostly.

Any of these sound cards digital? I fancy putting the digital sound connections on my drives to good use :-)

Sonicfury has digital input...

also worth checking out Hercules GameSurround Fortissimo II - this card is better than SoundBlaster Live, and has optical inputs and outputs too ... and its only 39 quid !

Optical inputs and outputs? What are the advantages of them? ... Oh they for people with expensive musical equipment to plug into? :D

Blah you've forced me to go visit the website, see what they're for now :D

SonicFury is still a bit expensive at £58, might go with the cheaper £34 Hercules lol

Marc :-) <--not cheap, just poor after buying guts lol

yep, ideal for anyone using minidisc recorders etc.

OEM Model is £34, retail one is £39.

OEM version doesn't come with any software does it? The extra £5 between is worth it for all the goodies you get :D :D

Is the SonicFury any better than the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Player Pci Sound card - £76.38 incase anyone was interested.

well i use 2 sound cards, a soundblaster live pro and a terratec ews 64. both very good cards. i suggest that if u are wiring to any hifi's or minidisks as well as pc speakers( why if u got hi fi tho) u ge a sb live value then u can pick up the live trives for about 10quid on ebay (they work with the value card)

Ps. why would u want digi in unless u were doin pro recording?

i use the abit AU10... this is cheap (about 40 quid if i remember) it may not be excellant but it comes with windvd2000 and a remote control so you can control volume chapter etc anything that a stand alone dvd player does and control mp3s through the remote... and its also has 5.1 output... sounds kickass with my cambridge soundworks DTT2200 5.1 speakers..... i recomend this sound card....

If u want to use the live drive with an audigy player ..... buy the audigy platinum instead as it has the live drive IR so comes with a remote. it's an amazing bit of hardware, ive just got one and am totally impressed with it.

I think I may have to, was going to get a Player and a second hand Live Drive (seen them for as little as £10), but I may have to talk my dad into splashing out the extra ;)

I have just put a Hoontech DSP24v, a low latency sound card for software synths, Cubase etc, it rocks !
BUT it's £110 from www.tech-mate.com, (http://www.tech-mate.com,) the Creative Audigy is also a low latency card and is about 4 times more powerful than the previous cards you've mentioned, but sound quality not as tight as the Hoontech.
P.S. Hoontech card works with standard windows stuff too, games etc..
