Might sound a big hidious but, i am setting up a Router for my m8, he wants to share his 128kb broadband! i got the router installed and all the software set up, in internet explorer the ntl screen appears asking you to add the computer to your account which i do, then i restart the pc and the set top box, but when i go back onto internet explorer the ntl screen loads back up, i went through the process again, only to see that the computer is already on the account but it will not let me use the internet! The router is configured for a static IP address, and all the rest! i cannot figure out the problem, and the last thing i want to be doing is ringing up emppty heads at ntl! so is there any1 out there who can shed a light onto my problem?

hmmmmm well this is how u fix it chris, take a sledge hammer lift it and slam it down on your router. if it doesnt work after try smacking the monitors and they are causing serious radiation to the router.

Hope i helped m8

Ill keep that in mind then if you ever come round my house and get near my computers!! :D
Seriously now, what is the best way to share my internet connection between atleast 3 pc's without using a gay little router? Is making a Proxy server better or using the built in connection sharing in 2000, or xp more ideal?
:( the thought of using windows HP (xp) hehe!

damn all you people with adsl to hell!!! what about the people that 1. cannot get adsl because of the exchange, 2. cannot afford ISDN, and 3. parents that will not allow 24/7 downloads or any other ISP other than bloody freeserve anytime!

with regards to the problem, you may want to turn everything involved off, then turn on the bloody router, then all the machines in turn - if in doubt go to internet options, connections, then LAN settings. hit "automatically detect settings" and reboot.

Anyone else been "freeserved"? We got a £450 + vat bill in last month for "free internet access" to freeserve - they've been redirecting traffic to some other number!

I had an NTL cable modem linked into my WinXP PC, then wireless network to another XP PC, so's the slave could access the net thru my main PC.

Now have a wireless belkin on the NTL modem, and have my master PC cable attached to the Belkin, and while the slave doesn't get massive speeds - guess downoal/upload would be slower, the master's just as fast as ever.

If this helps, feel free to ask for advice. It was a bit of a headache (well, several, actually, plus tranks), but I'd be happy to pass on what (little) I know.

I just set up a broadband NTL installation today, for two computers using a D-Link DI-804 router which includes 4 10/100 switched ports (£84 from DABS.com)
1st machine was 2k Pro, 2nd machine was XP Home.
1 Install network cards and don't set anything in TCP/IP - leave the settings alone.
Next, plug first computer into router and insert NTL set up disk. AT THIS POINT, the cable modem should NOT be connected to the WAN port on the router.
After a few questions it tells you to connect the modem to the computer - connect it to the Router.
It goes through the remainder of the setup, does the odd test etc. and registers you with NTL. That's it.
For the second computer, plug its network cable into the router and use the NTL setup disk in the second computer. (Don't bother disconnecting the modem from the router this time).
When you are well into the registering with NTL phase (using the same entries as on the first computer) just cancel the register routines and the setup disk will carry on with the installation, doing the tests etc.
That's it. No absolute need to specifically setup anything in the Router - just pretend its not their for the purposes of installation and go through it once for each machine.Hope this helps

Use a program called "602 Pro Lan Suite" i think. The bonus is, it is a great piece of software and it is free to register if it is for 5 or less computers. Hope i helped.

If still using the Belkin its relatively easy.

First off, you need to note the MAC address of the network card currently assigned to the NTL account (ie the one you connected directly to the PC) you can find this by typing ipconfig /all at a Command prompt. It will be a mixture of letters and numbers.

You then need to go into the config of the router and find the MAC Address cloning section, enter this number in there.

Make sure that the router is set to get a Dynamic IP as NTL only deal with a dynamic setup. Check the routers Ethernet facing IP address, may be 192.168.1.1 or similar. This is about it on the router side.

On the PCs give them their own ip address in the same range as the router, i.e 192.168.1.2, point bothe the DNS and the gateway to point to the router and you should now hopefully have Internet access system wide. I have a Wireless Belkin Router and it works really well on my NTL.

I aint still got it, I did all the things you said, but i still had problems with it.
In the end it turned out to be a fault with the router.
Instead i am setting up a proxy server to run as a firewall and internet sharing setup.

As a fellow NTL user who had a similar problem, basically you need to go through the original steps to register. Follow that NTL screen where you enter your PID and password and then once thats done, you need to go to autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html and follow some instructions there. Hopefully this *might* help out.

Cheers,
