The flat shipping rate of £2.95 was often a popular feature of our website, but was not without flaws. Naturally, some orders were costing us less than this to ship and some were costing more and although the consistent shipping rate made the resultant order cost easy to guesstimate, it didn't always result in the fairest pricing for our customers. For example, customers placing a small order for LEDs and some plugs would have to pay a little over the top on postage, and customers buying multiple heavy items would have to pay a premium since 'heavier' products had an extra premium on them to cover a single carriage charge.
So, we have now put every one of our products on the scales and implemented a weight based shipping rate on our website.
This means that small orders now cost as little as £1.21 to be posted by recorded delivery and although the courier shipping rate has increased, we have compensated this by 'price checking' nearly 200 of our products in the past week and making sure our prices are revised to figures a little closer to those of our competitors. For the majority of orders, this will result in a better bottom line price - so please make sure to double check your wish lists, there may be a large saving since you last checked !
This has also allowed us to include an option to 'upgrade' from recorded delivery to Royal Mail Special Delivery for customers who require a faster delivery of small products. A Saturday delivery service will be added very soon.
If you would like to know the shipping costs on an order, simply add the items to your basket and click 'Basket' and then 'Checkout now' to select your shipping destination. On the next page you will see the available postage rates for your order, and of course there is no obligation to purchase at this stage !
