Hi, im fairly new to the whole overclocking stuff and wanted to know how to make my score better

Dell Dimension 4500
2,26Ghz P4 533Mhz
256MB PC2100
Geforce 4 MX420 at 314 Core and 451 Memory
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Dell PSU - 250W i think
40GB 5400rpm
CD-RW/DVD Combo drive
Network Card

I get 5142 Marks, how can i make it better?

N.B I cannot overclock my CPU as the BIOS Settings are locked

2001 like high FSBs so if you wanna get higher with your setup your ganna need to start overclocking you Cpu, also you Graphics card isnt really helping matters :)

Edit: didnt see the bit about overclocking....To be honest with you theres not much you can really do with your setup, you can download Rivertuner to try and OC your card but i doubt you would get very far

thanks but i have already overclocked my card!

Stock = 250/333
OC = 314/451 and thats without a fan, just a heatsink but it runs fine at that :-)

Perhaps you might think of investing in a more modern video card, that would bring you a phat portion of extra points. 9800Pro's are particularly good value atm.

i'm actually going to order a sapphire 9800 Pro from Kustom later today or tomorrow for £154 + P&P!

Should pump it up an extra 10k or something i hope or maybe thats a bit to optimistic!

i'd expect maybe 13500 3dmarks in 2001, you could increase that dramatically though with higher pc ram and some fsb overclocking.

Ive got my Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro now and i got about 12,500 in 3DMARK01SE

I think thats resonable, my mobo only takes PC2100 RAM and i can't overclock the CPU

That's a very good increase in speed and should allow you to play most games at a decent resolution and a good level of detail. It was the best move you could make and if you ever change your PC, you already have a good graphics card :)

thanks for the positive comment :)

The next upgrade will either be a new PSU as this one gets quite noise when playing games etc or some more RAM

To make my psu quiet i just opened it up and swapped the fan with a quieter one. May be a cheaper way to do it.
