unless you want crap output or have a laptop to save to very often I wouldnt even bother with digital for that kind of money , I would reckon for good defination you should get a decent 35mm.

I just got myself a Canon powershot A75. It cost £245 for the camera and all the accessories that i got with it which included a case, a 128mb compact flash card (32mb included anyway), battery charger with the batteries. This is my first digi camera so cant compare it to any other cameras but the pics are fantastic. It is recommended as a great first timer camera for the point and shoot generation.

Great service, received it within 24 hours after placing the order.

I also have a powershot (A70) it is a lovely camera, and you can attach optional lenes. Somthing which I have done! I think they are only about £170 on Ebuyer now... definatly worth the extra few pounds, if you can strech a little further theres the A80.

I'd recommend doing a few searchs, when I was looking I found a few good camera review sites (steve digicams, etc) which where usefull as they tended to honestly review kit. Once your down to a few models, go into town and go into your local photography shop (jessops? LCM?) and acculty try some of the kit.

Theres a minolta I looked at which was very good, I'll have a look though my old files, and post which cameras I was initally looking at. It was funny I orginally set my self and budget of £90, and ended speending over £200.

Good Luck

by the way, its worth getting a decent charger.
I got a maha on and some maha batteries...

Normal AA - 2 hours continous photo taking with flash every 10 secs
Maha Rechargeable - 12 Hours photo taking with flash every 10 seconds.

I think I payed about £50 for 8 batteries and a decent maha charger. If you can't afford a really decent charger. Just get a normal one, make sure that the batteries you use a Metal Hydroxide (Ni-MH) not Nicell-Cadium (Ni-Ca). Get a nice high MHa, say 1800+

I just got myself a Nikon Coolpix 4300 from http://www.pixmania.com

They also offer offer bundles - I went for the one with the extra 128MB compact flash and the 8 in 1 card reader for £217. Have a look here http://www.pixmania.com/uk/uk/28274/art/nikon/coolpix-4300-silver.html

Tyran, An excellent buy at the moment is the Olympus mju410, which you can get for around £180ish at the moment. I was using a mju 300 last year and that had great pics and top pocket ease of carrying. The 410 has a few updates besides resolution.
Problem with buying in the states is that generally the power transformers are 110v only, not multi voltage. Also the guarentee will be for USA only, so if any problems you will have to ship it back to the states.
If you really feel like pushing the boat out get a Sony T1, I just bought one and it is so nice especially with the big lCD screen.

I've always found this (http://www.steves-digicams.com/) to be a good review site.

BTW, Canon seem to be doing some reasonably priced models right now. Similarly, don't dismiss Fuji.

Me, I've got a Sony DCS-P12 - It's lurvley.

Just outside your budget (£210 on pixmania) but the Kodak DX6490 is a superb camera. See:

DX6490 at Pixmania (http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/33058/art/kodak/easyshare-dx6490.html)

Bought one for the g/f at Xmas, she loves it, I've been very impressed too. The 10x optical lens is exceptional for a camera this cheap.

i can only recomment that you stay well away from Fuji, the amount of bother im having with them is a disgrace. so avoid like the plague.
