I just realised that it has been a long while since this forum has had a 3DMark thread.
So, if you wanna talk about 3DMark or want to ask about tweaking then this is a good place to do it. I hope Graeme and Thomas input into this thread as well.
How would i boost my result i got 8976 From 3d mark 2001
My computer is a P4 2.0ghz 2048mb Ram (Rd800 Proven and is better that the equivilent ddr ram) Geforce 3ti500 i have all update drivers and wondering on tips to get a few more benchmarks out of my system
LANcaster

Only 8976 eh? ;)
Thats pretty good m8. However, you may wish to try the following:
- In your BIOS check that spread spectrum modulate is enabled (if it exists) and ensure that your AGP memory apature size is at 512Mb.
- Turn your monitor refresh down to 60Hz and unplug all USB devices before benchmarking.
- Disable any modems or network connections before starting.
- Make sure that only the processes required to run Windows are running and nothing more
- Overclock until you smell burning (joke, don't bother - it's not really worth it!)
- oh, and make sure you have the latest drivers for everything
happy benchmarking!
keep posting your scores m8
How do i overclock a P3 455Mhz
I got 5048 in 3d mark 2001 with my ati radeon 7500 card, after some memory tweaking in the bios, 4800 at default memory settings - is this good? anybody got ideas about making it faster?
LANcaster
29-01-2002, 21:41
That isn't bad at all m8.
The best ways to achieve a greater score are what I have put above.
Oh, also, you might want to check Rage3D (http://www.rage3d.com) for some Radeon stuff
Thomas @ Kustom

Sure I'll Input.
OK, I know it's just a g/f2 mx benchmark, but what do you all think of the little stealth machine, the one in the window with an asus g/f 2 mx 32mb (spec as shown in systems (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/?page=systems) )
it gets 3200 last time I checked. not bad for a £67 card huh? :D
I managed to tweak my Hercules Geforce 2MX (bought last march from Kustom) up to 3501 roughly with a bit of tweaking :D.
LANcaster

These are pretty good scores for GeForce2 MX cards.
I think the XP 1600 in the Stealth machine helps!!
Hey, Ross, what other specs are u running that MX with? Thats a great score.
I've got a score of 6,220 with a GeForce 3 Ti200 running on a P4 1.8Ghz 512MB RDRAM.

STUPID 3DMARK!!! (GRRRR......)
I have just managed to get 8956 marks with the spec below with very litle OC'ing and guess what? The MadOnion.com server has decided not to bother responding when I try to submit my score. I decided to wait for a while and when I went back through to my room, my mum had switched off my PC thus losing my score - disaster!!!
well, I'll just have to tweak my PC to death again, ho hum.....

The Gainward GeForce Ti200 cards are getting scores of 7480 without overclocking. And this is Gainward, so it WILL overclock. I think that's pretty impressive for a ti200 at stock. That was in a AthlonXP1700 demo system , xp, 21.83, 256mb ddr, 8kha+
LANcaster

Wow, that is pretty impressive.
I'm getting closer to 9k - I just managed 8842 without using a vmod or unlocking the XP.

my geforce 4 ti4400 should finally arrive on friday, what kind of 3d mark should i acheive with the specs below?
[512 ddr this week too]
can get the 1900xp up too 1800mhz ..is 9500-10000 a fair estimate?
Thorburn
12-03-2002, 16:58
You'll break 10k with EASE assuming you overclock the GPU a little. With the Ti4600 I got 10991 with my CPU at 2133mhz, no overclocking on the gfx card and no tweaks
Guys,
im a new member here, but im not a retard :o)
I'm running an Athlon 1800+ XP on an ABit K7R mobo with 512mb DDR running win 2k, with DX 8.1
I have a GF2 Ultra 64mb
I get a 3dmark of 5879.. and i have to say, im really quite disappointed with that score.. ideas on what i could do to improve it ?
i run an appature size of 256 on the AGP port, and i define as much memory as i can for D3d and OpenGL in the Nvidia Control Panel
Thorburn
19-03-2002, 00:21
5879 isn't bad for a GF2 Ultra, as these cards don't run the nature test which counts towards your score
if you want instant 3d points run Win98se. Mine is up like 1k points doing that. 2k totally ownz in everything else though.
On another note, does it make you feel all warm inside when you get 9k+? At the end of the day it won't make any noticable difference to your games or enjoyment of those games.
It's just a way of bragging how big your **** is
BTW: 3dmark was make for GF's although Radeon **** all over them in "bang 4 buck" terms

 uhh...okay I'm a newbie in terms of tweaking my computer...I live by the motto of...'If it aint broken, don't fix it'.
I only maybe 3,700 or somewhere close to this with my GeForce 2Ti.
I get about 7,400'ish with my new GeForce4Ti4200.
Does DDR Ram make a substantial difference? I turn off all non essential programs and disable my broadband devices etc.
I understand that no matter where you turn but judging from my system, what could possibly be the biggest bottleneck in my case??? I am running under a Win2K enviroment so I guess that can't possibly help much or is it just my PC is a dodgy Kustom PC :D j/k.

all our scores pale in comparison to the 20,000+ achieved by some Dutch geezer (http://www.dutchgeforce.nl/news.php?action=article&articleid=559)
Given that this score required an Intel P4 3.6Ghz CPU and an ATi RADEON 9700 Pro clocked @ 448/374Mhz, I wonder at what ££££?

been maxing out at 11520 lately on my:
P4 1.8 @ 2.4 (18 x 133)
533FSB (4 x 133)
512Mb PC 2700 DDR
Ti4200 128Mb @ 275/550
had another little tweak today...
maxed at 11722... was able to squeeze another 200 out...
i am concluding that this Ti4200 is a the limit, especially as its a 128Mb (slower ram chips) version... would love to slam a ATI 9700 Pro in and see the points soar past 15,000 stock, and then uptowards 16000-17000 with some tweaking.

Most I've gotten recently is 11174. Using 40.41 dets, only tweak is coolbits.
Main rig spec is:
XP2100+ stock, on GA-7DXR+
512Mb PC2100
GF4 Ti4400 @ 310/625
Win XP
My backup:
Athlon T'bird 750 @ 1Ghz, on Asus K7V
256Mb PC133
TNT2 M64 @ 160/176
Win 98 SE and 30.82 dets
> gets 1174.
Not much difference between the two then, eh? Just a ‘1’!
Just downloaded 41.72 dets for XP and 98, but still to try them out.
I also intended to swap the GFX cards over and bench to see what sort of difference it makes to both systems. The 'just can't be arsed' factor is making a major play though.

Difficult to tell without examining your pc. a good start would be to make sure you have the latest videocard drivers and the latest via 4 in 1 drivers installed. after that you could possibly gain some performance in your bios. After that You could start overclocking things, but with the performance that you have you would probably not see that much of a performance jump in real usage :) let me know how you go

LoL, I just d/led 3D mark and ran the test on my Dell 2.5 Ghz,512 RAM, using Intel Extreme Graphics chip ;). Its not by choice I use that, its just fricken Dell not putting a AGP slot in my machine, even tho they said they would! Do not buy from Dell....EVER!
Anyway, my score? A super duper......
1354 :D Bring on Doom 3!
dell can not very well put an AGP slot in your machine. That is dependant on the motherboard they use. I find it very hard to believe your motherboard has no AGP slot but being a Dell you never know
My parents' Dell has no AGP slot, just a row of solder dots where you would expect to find one. It also has only 3 PCI slots.

I think you need to check your drivers etc. Mattoooo, that score seems very low for your spec. On our second rig I get 8100 using a GF3 TI200, 256Mb generic PC2100 and an XP2200 at stock (about 1.8gig). I'd nave expected you to be up around the 10k/11k mark with your rig.

Well my gfx card drivers are the newest ones on the Hercules web site. They're the right ones right? Linkage (http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=52&cid=1)
Personally Mattooooo, I would get the drivers from ATi's website, since they work with 3rd party boards anyway.

Well I installed them and Windows wouldnt start in normal mode until I rolled back the drivers. What should I try now?
Did you record the benchmarks as you increased your OC? It woiuld be interesting to see what increase you get with each jump of say 100Mhz on your CPU.
I've just checked my records (I benchmark and record all settings at every different OC) and very roughly I'm seeing an increase of around 300 3dmarks for every increase of 100Mhz. This is not comparing apples with apples because my OC is done with the fsb instead of the multi but I can see a steady progression. The OC on my graphics card gives an extra 600 3d marks with the fsb and multi on the CPU the at the same speeds.
I still think there is something wrong somewhere, it seems very low to me. How about trying a different benchmark like UT2003? It may be that it's related to 3dmark. Alternatively, try Sisoft Sandra memory bandwidth, not the best but should give you an indication if your system performance is increasing along with your OC.

I've got the UT demo. What test do you want me to run with it and how do i do it?
Thanks for your help by the way.
I don't know if the benchmark is in the demo or not. In the full game it is in the \UT2003\System folder and is a standalone exe called benchmark. Just double click to run and tell it what res you want it to run at.

I did the asbestos flyby in 1024 x 768 and got 186. In the benchmark text it says....
56.279015 / 186.726410 / 549.662659 fps -- Score = 186.840927 rand[18225]
Whatever that means...
Well, 186 is a good score for the flyby but doesn't stack up with your 3D Mark score. The Unreal score is more like I would expect, you can see some comparable results in Thomas Kustoms thread in benchmarking forum. Maybe it's not your rig but 3d mark that's not working properly for some reason?
Just a thought, are you using any AA settings in 3D Mark? If you have it on 2x or 4x that will slow it down a lot and could account for your score.
Mattooooo
19-08-2003, 21:32
Nope, I run it at default settings. Weird huh?

3D Mark is not so good in testing your benchmark peeps, both ATi and Nvidia cheat (they deliberatly make the cards fool 3d Mark into giving extra marks), The UT benchmark is a fair test.

I don't care about default scores. Best just go for top score.
New scores with max performance and overclocking after the weekend...

Has anyone got a 9800pro BIOS that's overclockable, the damn Powercolor BIOS is factory locked, and although I've got about 4 9700pro BIOS's, they're obviously no good to me for this...
Thanks all...

Yes, that is a bit low. I'm 2points off your score (19009) and i have a 533fsb P4 and a 9700pro.
Also i have single channel RAM on an older motherboard. I'm guessing your RAM is running in dual channel
I get 6825. I have 2600xp 768 ddr 333 msi g-force440mx 128 any addvice on getting a better score
get a better gfx card. thats really letting you down
I will be buying a new card in january I would get one just now but i am skint with getting christmas presents. I have overclocked the card form core:275 up to core:325 and memory:512 to memory:560 And I have overclocked the processor from 2098mhz to 2210mhz using fuzzy logic 4 will post results as soon as I run 3dmark 2001
that should help. The rest of your system looks just fine.
Set up a PC yesterday that scored 19104 stock
Makes my overclocking seem crap:(
just tried it but it crashed it I need more cooling before I try again it peaked at 2344mhz but crashed soon after
try givein your memory more volts and diffrent timming. I had this prob and changing this fixed it
Got my new card yesterday. The herc 9800se and my 3d mark score is now 12159 so quite a good performance hike.
I would have expected a better score than that with your setup Largo:confused: How's your 3Dmark03 score?
Good 3Dmark03 score, is your CPU running at stock speeds? I don't know about overclocking p4's or shuttles so I don't know what your options are but I think increasing the fsb if possible is the best way to up the 3dmark01 score.
As I said, I don't know about clocking P4's but I find I get the best results by increasing the fsb but keeping the memory in sync so that it increases the memory bandwidth. If your CPU is at 2.8Gig I would have expected a higher score than you have.
12,434 3D2K1
3,983 3D2K3
9600 Pro clocked to 475/355.
Looking at the scores using the 9600 I think I'll wait for a 9700 or 9800 as I'm hitting just under 14k with my TI4200. My 3Dmark03 score is carp though as it's not DX9 compatible.
Just softmoded my new card so heres the scores 3d mark 01 13523 and 3d mark 03 5353 still to overclock it tho.
herc 9800se aiw it kicks ass

I think thats a pretty nice score. I hope to be breaking 20k some time in the next week of two. I have been doing 'things' to my PC recently.
I have;
Taken the IHS off of my P4
Put my CascadeSS waterblock on my P4
Installed heatsinks on all my MOSFET's
Installed a Maze4-1GPU (With 80w peltier) on my 9700pro
If all that don't let me break 20k then this rig is not capable of it
Motherboard memory volt mod coming this week sometime (If i get round to it)
Here (http://gaming-resources.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=634) are some pics of my souped up motherboard, CPU
and here (http://gaming-resources.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=671) are pics of the graphics card

Just gonna try booting on a lower divider, see if I can get a bench going at 3.4/5Ghz:)
i could sya this is almost like comparing penis sezes. but i would be banned for that!
But serausly, why do peopel use 01 when o6 is out? 01 realy is not going to test most modern video cards is it?

It doesn't stress modern video cards at all, its just some some people use it to compare their old system to new, say if their old one couldn't run 3DM06.
Also many benchers like to hit milestones with the old programs, like 50k 3DM05, 300k AM3, 100k 3DM01, 30K 3D05, and now 25k 3D06:)
Theres still the same thing happening, benching legends use the old programs to hit milestones, others follow to see what their hardware can do, and then more people pile up to see just how their system does against other members:)
quick wuestion, is that a GTO? im using a GTO @ GTX speeds, just wondering how far you got yours pushed?
i heard that GTO's where originaly GTX's underclocked. im wondering if i should sli this one or get a new card. but tbh, this gto does everything i want/need it to.

680/1680 (686/1700) is max
Mine does everything I need aswell, except for when it comes to enabling AA @ 1680 x 1050, thats when it struggles
