Even though i dont like XP i agree that if u did install it it will increase your score alot!! try getting the SE of 3Dmarks 2001, this will also increase your marks, and by the way, get ME off your machine now, i am suprised it is running!!

XP will also 'take advantage of the extra CPU extensions' of the Athlon XP CPU as well :D

only if you dont have any apps that need registry entries

be careful that you dont have the drives set up as dynamic disks, cos your new install will refuse to recognise them. or maybe its just me?

Athlon XP 1800+ | Gigabyte GA-7DXR+ | 512MB PC2100 DDR 266MHz | ATI RADEON 8500 64MB | Windows 2000 Pro | 3DMarks = 6645

Any suggestions on how to improve it?
Please no "install XP" suggestions cos I think its kak :P
Any other suggestions would be appreciated though :)

Install the ATI Catalyst drivers
Set the AGP Aperture in the BIOS to 128Mb
Defrag your HDD before running the test

Which Radeon 8500 do you have? Built By ATI or Powered By ATI? Retail or OEM? Performance differences between all models are very noticable (and I mean in Real usage & not synthetic benchmarks as well)

Also try this guys drivers he has made them himself and is currently up to Beta 2 on his Nvidia ones, the ATI ones run like hot cakes on a Radeon 7500 a mate of mine has! I am gonna try his Nvidia ones soon!

Win2K! Win2K!

also ME is actually quite reliable, provided you leave it alone - have a server box sharing printer, modem, kazaa, 40gig hdd and mp3 - running ME!
I think I'll change it next time it goes wrong, if I were you, or just skip it and get 2K :D

Freddie,

With your setup, 12K isvery possible with the right tweaking.
For 3dmark 2001, win2k is a must, full stop.
I have 13200 with my setup.

im running a xp1900 on a abit kr7-133 motherboard, asus GF3 and i score 8000 with 3dmark2001.

you should be getting 11-12k things that can lower the score are, bad install or old driver try the new dets, bios settings not maxed and usb devices plugged into your pc.

just tested and now its 8127k looks like winxp handles usb resources alot better then win982nd, as in the past the score would jump alot after unplugging the usb devices..

woohoo
at last ive beaten the 10k mark

10026 3D marks to be precise
with no overclocking of CPU or video card
still should be able to go a bit higher and then overclock a bit and see what difference it makes
:)

am currently using the 29.40a ASUS drivers
would i be better with nvidia ones? or just stick with asus? does it make a difference
