Well, i've just stumbled round here and this section, unlike most others is rather quiet... so in the interests of kick starting the games section... i propose something semi radical ; like other sections they started up nicely with the old chestnut... what's your favourite <subject matter> and why?
so here it goes, what's your favourite 5 games and why?

1)with out a doubt my first must be Counter Strike, although maybe not a full game in it's own on paper, only being a mod for half life... IT'S A FULL GAME TO ME! you can't beat it imo.
2)red alert 2, it's very fun for lans esp. at late times of night to have 4 humans vs. 4 brutal enemies... then you learn who your friends are
3)roller coaster tycoon, for a while it took away my cs life... and that's a big part of me, when i need some non violent build it up and rip em off action, it's where i turn to
4)GTA3, lots of fun and violence, simple really.
5)Typing of the dead, it's great for some mad type em up (that's weak, i'm sorry) action. It's almost as fun as the arcade game, and is a good way to brush up your typing!

so, get posting like!

OK, here's a rough thing, and i have to apologise......there's not a pc game here.

No 1. Final Fantasy 7: I loved it, took me two months to complete and is the only game to have me totally engrossed.
No 2. Final Fantasy 10: The only game to bring me close to the enjoyment i had with Final Fantasy 7.
No 3. The Super Mario Series: I'm a sucker for the mario games, almost all of them are amazing, the best i reckon being Super Mario World, it was an amazing game, and i can't wait for Mario Sunshine on the gamecube.
No 4. Grand Theft Auto 3: Just brilliant, a whole living world in a single dvd, i couldn't believe violence could be so much fun. The missions were amazing and quite varied, so it didn't run dry.
No 5. Super Monkey Ball: Wow...simply wow. Lets see, a choice between an orgy with three bisexual blonde females and playing super monkey ball with three bisexual blonde females, the orgy wins. But we'd have a game of monkey bowling after coitus.

I Thenkyou. Spank me very much.

1) Dues Ex - Over 20 Hours of gamplay and 4 different endings = nearly failing whatever exams i was taking at the time :)

2) Half-Life and Mods - I h8 to say it but its a good game and CS has taken months away from my life :/

3) CM 01/02 - very very very addictive :)

4) Quake 3 - Would be higher but the SP sucks and i dont/havnt have/had broudband to play on the net, HOWEVER im getting ADSL in 8 days so ill be playing it non stop then :D

1. Conflict FreeSpace 1 & 2 (PC) - These games had it all gamplay, storyline, graphics and a genuine challenge
2. Street Fighter Alpha & EX 2 Plus (Arcade)- SF are the best beat em-ups by far, solid playability, these 2 are my favorites
3. Puzzle Bobble (Arcade) - Anything featuring Bub & Bob is just plain addictive, a great formula.
4. Quake (PC)- The weapons, the monsters, the sheer manic speed, later incarnations just aren't the same
5. Sonic Games (1,2,3,&Knuckles,etc.) (Megadrive) - Pickup and play, simple addictive gameplay

The best part is I have all these games running on my PC.

This is tough, I wanna add stuff like sega Rally, Lemmings, Worms, some other FPS games and some of my favourite pinball tables.

Most played games must be

1) Geoff Grammond's Grand Prix (amiga)
2) Elite II : Frontier (amiga)
3) HalfLife - crossfire map on LAN !
4) TOCA Touring Cars multiplayer
5) Emperor : Battle for Dune

not in a particular order, but I think I'm the first person to have some really old stuff there :)

I haven't put down what I would say are the best games ever, more so the games that I feel I've spent most of my time playing in my life !

The new codemasters racing game looks brill tho (Pro Race Driver) - been messing about with a demo and it's great fun... I might pre-order

Love Counter strike. Played it almost 24/7 for the time I was connected to the Uni LAN in cardiff, but only LAN games as they blocked the internet gaming ports

Have just pre-ordered CS:Condition Zero, even tho its not out for about 6 months. Also ordered Unreal T 2003 cos Unreal T was such a great game! :D

LBA, I really enjoyed playing, also Halflife, Quake (1+2) Unreal (I think you get the picture.

The CM series is so addictive it took away about 18 months of my life :D, I'm surprised my g/f put up with it, but I'm weened off it now (thanks to CS  )

Kingpin, RTCW, and many many other are too notch games. I can't think of any more at the moment top tired :D

Mario, Zelda, Deus Ex, Smash Bros Melee, Sonic.

To be really specific - Mario Bros. 3, Sonic & Knucknles plugged into Sonic 3, and of the Zeldas ... Tough, but probably Link to the Past.

Only a slight nintendo bias.

No order:

Superfrog (AMIGA/CD32)
Skidmarks (AMIGA/CD32)
UFO Enemy Unknown (AMIGA/CD32)
Streetfighter 2 Alpha (GBA - original on AMIGA)
Deus EX (PC)
SOF2 (multiplayer - PC)
Wolfenstein (multiplayer - PC)

G1ZmO
24-08-2002, 03:22
1a: Quake/Quakeworld
1b: Quake/Quakeworld
1c: Quake/Quakeworld
2: Quake 3 (note complete absense of Q2 due to crap physics)
3: Medal Of Honour AA
4: Unreal Tourney

fps games have the edge for me but tbqh I really dont see peoples facination with CS as I found the game too slow and plodding. Each to their own though, I realise its popular (but youre all wrong heh heh)

4) CS

hey all, being new to this forum i'll start with what i know...gaming.

My five fav games are:-

1) Final fantasy 7 - is is just such a well put together game. It surpasses even the new final fantasy games such as ffX. The cartoon graphics give a nice feel to the magic elements and the character development is extra ordinary.

2) cm 01/02 - you cannot say that this game is anything but brilliant if you are a genuine football lover.

3) the resident evil series - obliterating zombies is good for the stress level.

4) the street fighter series - what can't you do with a bit of button bashing...?

5) x-com apocalypse - it is just ozing quality from ever area, except for the graphics... but are they that important?

Graeme*Kustom*
26-08-2002, 20:04
PJ - Skidmarks was a cracking game ! used to waste so much time on multiplayer mode with that game :)

Super Skidmarks was interesting too, with the 'racing cows'... hmm !!

PJ Matthews
26-08-2002, 22:48
And lets not forget the caravans. I still have my AMIGA 1200 hooked up to my CD32 for exactly this. If only some racing games were as simple and as good as Simarks was. Whatever happened to Acid Software anyways?

Graeme*Kustom*
26-08-2002, 22:50
dunno. they were clever guys - they wrote all their stuff using BASIC , which is supposed to be slow and useless for games. I think they did Gloom as well? That was a good game.

PJ Matthews
26-08-2002, 22:53
Blitz basic wasn't slow... :) - If it wasn't for blitz we wouldn't have WORMS (not in the literal sense - the rumours ARE NOT true!!!)!.

Graeme*Kustom*
27-08-2002, 00:04
well, as a general rule of thumb basic was slow - blitz obviously made a huge difference to the performance yes.

kingpin,gta3,quake,half-life,rogue spear.

just to deviate from the topic slightly, what do you recon is the best machine for playing games?

(i.e. games systems or pcs?)

i remember playing centipede on the atari 2600 and being amazed. but the first machine that i had was a comodore 64. I still long for the days that a game will cost 4 pounds again!

Craig
27-08-2002, 21:12
my old amiga 600 had some briliant games (cannon fodder!) etc
then we have the pc with cs... :)

Jamie [Kustom]
27-08-2002, 21:19
cs is a good game...but i suck at fps :(

i thought the snes was a good machine, as was the mega drive. Now games are all about graphics!

Jamie [Kustom]
28-08-2002, 12:17
i say games are all about grphics cause i have serious hatred for many games on the ps2 (snd other game systems) which are often wasted by a constant desire to be aestetially pleasing whill ignoring he far more important fact that...the game just sucks *cough ffX cough*

Jonathan Oakes
28-08-2002, 21:22
1) Max Payne (with kung-fu mod)
2) C&C Renegade
3) C&C RA2 Yuri's Revenge
4) GTA3
5) Jedi Knight II Outcast

Sharky
28-08-2002, 23:12
I forgot to add,

C&C series all are great
Dukenukem 3D
Shadow Warrior
Syndicate Wars
Jedi Knight Series (I and II are both really good games, as was dark forces)

More will come to mind soon I suspect

Ok.. difficult one! But here we go..

1. Skate or Die by Electronic Arts on the C64
wish someone brought and updated version :(
2. Dave Mirra Pro BMX 2 on the PS2
3. Soldier of Fortune 2 on the PC
4. Node of Yesod on the Spectrum
5. Either Gauntlet or Track and Field in the arcade!

These games all really meant something to me at some point in my life.. there are plenty of modern PC games which I could easily have listed but they don't quite have what those above games did for me!

Quake 3 sucks I'm afraid.. but I've not played it networked/multiplayer so perhaps I'm missing out.

GTA3 also is something else.. I need it for the PC since I've flogged my PS2

cheers!

5) Ikari Warriors.

You really need a group of people playing this to appreciate it... on single player mode it's boring

Luna & The Erotic Empire - If you haven't played it, and u r over 18, it is worth a laugh, & becoming your very own 'movie' producer ;) ;) )
Unreal Tournament 2003 - Just played the Demo version, and I must admit I was impressed on how it run on even an older machine. I put it on my brother-in-laws Athlon 1Ghz & Radeon 32Mb SDR system and it played very well at 1280x1024 resolution with all settigs at normal.
Outrun - Classic game & I spent a lot of money on this game in the Arcade, along with many hours playing it on the Spectrum
Chuckie Egg - Who can forget this classsic platform game. Even available as a Direct X game also with all the playability (!)
Dragons Lair - Unique gaming experience with mind blowing graphics at it's time. Still to find an arcade machine that comes close to this game.

Wah! I forgot Way of the exploding fist! Was this the spectrum or the c64 version with the bull??

Actually, Fist was great.. BUT! International Karate+ on the C64 was and, possibly is still, one of the best fighting games on a home computer! you can keep your Tekkens!

Really?? Where from?? I strongly believe that the next Nokia or Ericsson mobile should come with either Chuckie Egg or Manic Miner instead of that Snake, Pinball or Tetris pish! It must be possible.

'Vanilla' Half Life (Multiplayer)

I think I'm going to have to add Soldier of Fortune 2 multiplayer to either second or first position in my list! Just played it online last night and it was fantastic! This game is unbelievable.. I loved it single player but multiplayer is just a completely different ball game! Why haven't I played multiplayer online games before?? I actually did quite well considering..

Quake 3 Arena next!

Deus Ex,
Max Payne
Return to Castle Wolfenstien
Medal of Honour

Have also just rediscovered Mechwarrior 4 and played it through again with the Saitek joystick and throttle combi which is great. I am now replaying Fallout Tactics which I love. I think I am gonna line up Deus Ex again after that.

Whats out now that is worth a look ?

a few of my favourites are rather old when gameplay was really important and no1 cared about the graphics! nowadays half of the games are focused on having kick ass graphics and the gameplay comes as a afterthought.
1.)grand theft auto
2.)command and conquer
3.)GTA3
4.)Half life
5.)Opposing force
