just thought i would like to see your views on one of the most argued about subject in the games industry. Is it good or bad. i think it is good as once i have played a pirate game i would go out and buy the sequel from the shop or wherever.

That's what demos are for...
nowadays demos are many 100 of mb big, and usually give u a good chunk of the game and gfx to play with, if u like it, then u pay for the companies game and for all the people who probably spent years developing it!

Thanku 8) thomas

Well i dont have many Pirate games, i have many games that i borrow off ppl (mainly PC101 :-) )
I use pirate games, yeah but i do buy games.I think that maybe 1 or 2 a year is ok i mean, is it really that bad.
I Never get a warez/ pirate version of a sequal if i have the original on warez/pirate as that is just shady

call me sad, but part of the fun is to have the box etc and all the crap that comes with the game :)

hmmm, i don`t buy games much, but I like to get the box and stuff too, even though I never read the manual. Pirate games often have stuff missing from them like music and stuff, that spoils the experience... I either amuse myself with the demo or buy the game...

though I must confess the first thing I do before I play a new game is jump on the net and grab a `no-cd patch` for it, and then put the game somewhere safe, I hate having to insert the cd all the time to play...

PIRATE GAMES ARE BAD, EVIL THINGS. MUSIC PIRACY, OK, BECAUSE THE INDUSTRY DESERVES IT.
BUT IMAGINE PUTTING IN 4 YEARS OF BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS INTO A GAME, AND GET IT SPREAD EVERYWHERE IN THE FORM OF CRAP PIRATE COPYS.

I KNOW ID BE ****ED.

you wouldn`t say that if you were into music more than computer games... a lot of the bands I listen to are small time, hard working musicians who deserve to do well, so I buy their stuff. In saying that since the dawning of mp3s I`ve probably bought more music, because the great thing about napster or whatever is that it lets you try a couple of songs from a band - if you like them, you go and buy their album or whatever - if you don`t , hey, no loss !

Same story for the mp3s here greame, i usually download a few tracks, and end up buying the album (after a good search in glasgow to get a decent price!). But thats not what a lot of Napster users do. Large amount of users have broadband connections, enabling them to download whole albums, these are then stuck on a cd for thier personal cd player etc.

don't get me wrong guys i buy loads of games probably about 2 per month. however there are games that i don't want to spend my hard earned (by that i mean begged off of parents :D ) cash and then find out they are terrible. demos often put in only the best bits of a game and the quality is often a bit poorer so the filesize is smaller. now with mp3 i just go to the albums website, get the names of the tracks and download them off napster. This is for the simple reason that i refuse to pay more than everyone in europe for a CD all because of those greedy people the other side of the border.

Yeah. LP prices are really bad in this country, namely in HMV and V.shop etc.

I simply refuse to pay the prices that they want, its totally crap.

And the argument about "supporting ur group" no matter what, is a load of crap. A lot of that money goes to the record company anyway!

Being a software developer myself, I can not condone pirating because it costs a hell of a lot in effort and money to put a new product (game/office app/etc) on the market.

However, I'm also a pc user at home and most of the software I use is way too expensive to buy... I think you know where this leads too...

exactly the programme i use at college costs over £2000. as a student where the hell am i supposed to get the money to buy this??? i also believe though in rewarding the developers for there hard effort though and if i had the money there would be no problem going out and buying it.

just saw this topic and thought i would add my opinion

i buy games that i like
i rarely come across a game that has kept me interested for more than a week
(those that have have been purchased and kept)
if i think they will then i might buy it
but rarely have i got a game that has kept me interested for long

downloaded the new Dune game a few days after it came out in the states
all 4 CDs of it (full ISOs - nothing missing)
it kept me playing for a week at the most before i got bored
so there was no point me buying that as it would have been returned anyway
it was the same with gansters 2

operation flashpoint lasted 30mins
so iam glad it wasnt purchased (i thought it was going to be a lot better than it is - bring on hidden and dangerous 2 - i bought the orignal)

i also think that if i wasnt getting games by pirating methods then i wouldnt be buying any games anyway as i cant afford to do so even with a job - i wasnt before
so me doing it isnt affecting the market
i dont buy pirate games and i dont sell them

as for software - it is too god damn expensive
ive had one piece of software come my way that costs around £10000 or something like that
never used it as it is rather complicated
think it got binned

going to finish this post now
