View Full Version : Multiplayer Hosting
Hello and welcome to my first post!
This has been driving me up the wall so maybe someone could help. I've been trying to host multiplayer games to play some mates, the server appears in the server list, but when you click on the link, the game shows 'connecting' or whatever then just sits there.
Hosting used to work on 56K Dial-up before, but since we've all switched to broadband, it just doesn't want to know.
We've tried UT, UT2K3, MOHAA, all with the same results.
Anyone else have this problem?
Messiah.
I can host servers fine on my 512k cable connection, off the top of my head i cant think what could be wrong, ill have a think and get back to you.

What ISP you with?
I've heard of a few which either throttle down the Ports required for gaming
or
due to the number of P2P servers running on their bandwith it usually comes out of the gaming port.
I can't remeber off hand the port or protocall used! mind has gone bye bye!!
hopefully somone else has the proper info :)
The first thing to ask is..are your PCs directly connected to the ISP..ie.does your PC plug directly into ADSL/CABLE modem...if so you should have a public IP address....if your IP address is private....
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
or 169.254.0.0 -169.254.255.255 (reserved for Automatic Private IP Addressing.)
it will never work (they are ignored by BGP routing protocol)
You normally end up with a private address if you connect via a firwall or DHCP device.
If you can post your IP address (or even the first 3 chunks (octets) this could help solve ur problem
Oh and make sure you turn off any software firewalls on ur PC if you don't know which ports the games need left open.
Another thought.....if you are familiar with PING, try and ping your friends PC...This is always the easiest way to test 4 connectivity.
:D
First off, I'm with Freeserve, but the others are with NTL and ?Blueyonder?.
My IP Address starts with 62.137.xxx.xxx and the PC is directly hooked up to the ADSL Modem. Even when I give out the IP Address, it still gives the same results.
I've tried to host with the firewall on, off, I've tried shutting everything down except Explorer, Systray & the connection, but nothing seems to work.
I'll try pinging their machines.
Thanks.
Another thing, we can all connect to other games from the server browser no problem.
