View Full Version : Shuttle ICE, What Fan?.
Right, the Shuttle is up and running but with the ICE fan at full speed it sounds like a hoover:D. I want a decent, quiet (not silent, but quiet!) fan so that i can leave the fan setting on full and still hear myself think. Looking at the Vantec Stealth 80mm, but the YS Tech TMD fan looks interesting, are these available in a 'true' 80mm fitting?, Kustoms spec shows them as 74mm?.
:)
I've got the vantec stealth Jon, and its quiet but not silent. The current recommendation is the 80mm Acoustifan (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2573.html)
I've not heard it myself, by PJ raves about them.
Another quiet one, that has some whack if you need it is the ThermalTake SmartFan II. But you might struggle to find one of those now, they seem to have disappeared.
Would be interested to hear the results of the TMD if you go for it !
I was looking at the Acoustifan but i was worried if 25cfm would be quite enough airflow?. I would like to try the TMD fan if it'll fit (35cfm @ 25dba seems reasonable to me?), can anyone from Kustom confirm if the 74mm fitting will fit in place of a 'standard' 80mm fan?.
:)
*EDIT*
Of course it won't, what am i thinking of!!!.
  :p
i have a zalman fan, and at reduced speeds it silent and keeps my system at 47 degress.

Lots of people i know with shuttles seem to be raving on about the Sharkoon SL1 fan. Specs:
Power: 2.76 Watts
Airflow: 40cfm
Noise: 15.5 - 27 Db(A)
With that ratio of cfm to db i can see why.
40CFM for 27dba, thats some going. Still, i think i'm gonna go for a Vantec Stealth...it seems easier to get hold of!. The first couple of pages of info on google about the Sharkoon fan were either in french or german...
:D

I've swaped mine for a NoiseBlocker S2 - it's rated at 11-19 dbA and 29.4 cfm (if my maths are correct). Very happy with it. Does an excellent job of cooling an Athlon XP 2200+ running 24/7 with a load average of 1.0.
I also changed the PSU fan while I was at it. Not so easy but very worthwhile.
Got them both from here (http://www.ultim8pc.co.uk/index.asp?section=products&idd=4).

I got a fan from there once. Cost £7 but after couriers and packaging came to £17 :o ... Then it arrived by first class post. Well and truly ripped off I think, and I've not been back since.
Oy! No linking to competitiors please!
The Accousti fan is great but with the sensor, it will probably never run at full speed (requires 70ºC). You would have to modify it by removing the sensor tip and joining the two wires together. That way, the BIOS could control the speed.
It's possibly too quiet and still able to give you a good level of cf/m
Sure i cant intrest you in a delta scremmer?? :p

I've got an Evercool in mine, cheap and a good trade-off between noise and airflow. No fan whine either - I can tolerate the quiet white noise of airflow but it's whiny fans I hate.
Keeps my 2.4Ghz P4 at 53'C *full load*, and just left to idle it'll drop to 36-39'C depending on room temperature.
What LED fan would you suggest to put in a SB75G2 Shuttle to cool a P4 3.06GHz???
