These are the tings I will be getting soon (March 10 or thereabouts)

Canon EOS 10D
Canon 17-40mm F4/L
BG-ED3 Battery Grip + Spare Batteries
RS-80N3 Remote Release Cable

Manfrotto Tripod - need help here ... tripod mainly for night shots, landscapes and pano shots (to be stitched together)
I have been recommended the 190 legset ...

Second lens if I can afford it will be
Canon 70-200mm F4/L (There is a good chance that I will get this as well)

1 GB Storage to begin with - Probably 2 x 512 ProX Sandisk CF

What are your recommendations ? Any changes ? Anything I have missed out ?

I want everything I need to start with in one go.

Most of it will be bought it Dubai where I can get a discount at the dealers and other stuff price matched from Uk prices at the obvious place.

nice kit!!! I see you're a Canon man :)

I used to work for the well known retailer in the UK (thats if the one i'm thinking of is the same as you?) I've been out of touch of the photograhic business for a number of years so I can't really advise any further.

I've kind of taken a side step and now work in the video/TV industry - Where I love Canon too.

Might be worth getting some insurance for it? Its a major investment.

All the best,

Ed

Due to unforseen circumstances I might have to go with Nikon.

I am now going to be getting the Nikon D100.

I was dead set on the Canon before, but I have switched because my dad is going to give me his Nikon 35-70mm lens and a very high quality macro lens (not sure exactly which one) and a F80 SLR film body for free.

This saves me a lot of money and a film body and macro lenses were both something I was going to buy eventually.

And as I have not used SLR cameras before that much (I have used both Canon and Nikon, but not for long terms) starting with either one wont make a difference for me. And the savings (close to £1000+ I would say) are substantial.
