lo all,

just got my hands on a new IBM laptop DVD drive P/N : 92P5990

i want to use it in my current project box but there is a small problem, the connector at the back doesnt seem to be a standard drive connector it looks like this

and my converter looks like this (from kustom)

my old Dell laptop 24x cdrom was in a shell and once dismantled it had the proper conector, but this one doesnt seem tobe the case (dont want to risk ripping it apart yet)

any ideas? or anyone can shine a light on this type of connector?

cheers

Remove the back plate which will reveal the standard optical drive connector which is what all the adaptors use.

As said, the back part should come out once unscrewed to expose the normal connector.

ok, ive unscrewed the backplate off to reveal the same connector it seems to be hardwired to the device and without unscrewing more screws (on the top of the dvd) and opening the whole device i carnt get to it. has anyone had this sort of thing before where it isnt just the backplate screws only? just dont want to open up the thing and make it unuseable even for a laptop without being 100% sure it will work in the project box

The connector behind it should be slightly larger. Can you take another photos please.

A couple of makes of laptop cd drives have there own non standard connectors hard wired to the drive itself instead of using an adaptor.
