is this cable used any more ?

reason i ask that the i didn't bother putting one in my shuttle... but i am still able to play audio CDs... seems that it must be playing them via the ide cable now ?

is there any reason why i would need put use one of these cables now ??

I'd love to know what they were for in the first place.

afaik, it goes back to when hardly any CD-Rom drives supported reading music data digitally so passed then analogue signal to the soundcard.

With modern CD(DVD,et al)-Roms this is no longer an issue (unless you buy a non Red Book compliant audio CD)

ah fair enough! I'll remove it then! I just put it in out of habit.

Yeah, they were/are to pass a analogue signal to the soundcard

i never bothered putting one in when i was building my shuttle , for one i didnt have any lying round anyway and had heard discussions before about the audio cable still being required.

mine works fine though and can play music and games with perfect sound :)
