Hi,

Sent an e-mail to Kustom, but wanted to find put if other Shuttle owners (I recently purchased a SN41G2) find that the PSU 'ticks' when the XPC is switched off, but power is still connected.

Is this a feature of the 'enhanced PSUs' or is this a feature, big question is, do I need to get it replaced.

*I know this has been discussed in other 'threads' but this was around a ticking, whining PSU, when the XPC was running*

Thanks,

Mike:confused:

Mine (an SN41G2) does it aswell. When its running its fine but when the machine is off and still receiving power from the wall socket theres a faint ticking.

It affects a certain brand of PSU's that Shuttle chose to use in this particular shuttle. Dont think it causes any problems tbh but I'm trying to track down one of the newer 250W Silent PSU's and use that instead (mainly for the reduction in fan noise and case temps).

Thanks Arc,

I know Kustom are selling the Achme model and the ticking seems to effect the 'Enhance' PSU's (according to other Forums).

Do you have an Enhance or Achme??

At the moment Kustom are also trying to find out if this is a fault, issue, feature and if a replacement PSU is warranted.

Think its an Enhance I've got.

Tbh it seems to be a "feature" of this PSU, I've read many discussions on forums talking about it. If it starts affecting system stability then worry about it. However, if it doesnt, then just switch it off at the wall :). Ok it aint a perfect solution but it should work in the meantime until you can get some more info on it.

If you get any ticking from your Shuttle PSU, then you can get it replaced. Mine ticked mostly when turned off, but eventually started ticking in operation so I asked for it to be exchanged. Be warned that I found the Achme model to be louder than the Enhance.

This ticking is the PSU's large capacitor distributing 5v to input devices such as the keyboard and mouse so that if you have something like "wake on keyboard" enabled, your keyboard will need power to send a signal through the mobo to the psu, telling it to power up.

Cheers Graeme,

There has been so much debate about these 'ticking' PSUs on various newsgroups and forums.

As far as I can find out, so far, they are not faulty, it's a feature of the power supply.

This being the case, is Kustom at liberty to replace them? (Hey, if you dont ask ;-) )

Does Kustom's supplier of the Shuttle range have any comments on this one.

Thanks again,

Mike :p

hehe, I dont blame ya ;).

I was going to pop down at the weekend there to get one as I'd seen the psu's mentioned in another thread but when I saw the news about your move I thought I'd wait a week or two.

Gives me an excuse to see the new shop :).
