...for the start of a new project I'm launching today. Please excuse me as I may ask some really dumb questions here but I'm new to the mini-itx spec and don't really know whats out there. I am doing my research but thought you might be able to help me along a bit.

Firstly I'm planning on using an M series board for a HTPC project.

What is a LVDS used for - is it just to power an external tft or can it power say a small lcd 4 x 20 screen?

I'm planning on using a small DC/DC converter to power it and keep the noise in side the box down but I also need a few other 12v DC supplies going to a external HD enclosure/etc. and was wondering if anyone's seen an example or would think there would be any prob with:

a) getting a cheap 150W psu and stripping it down and putting it another case to take the 12v leads and split them out between multiple 12vDC leads for the other box's
b) getting a standard AC/DC switching psu (like what I've used in the past for peltiers/etc.) and powering the 12vdc lines with that

Another question is in terms of front port pcb's - I've looked around for these but haven't found anyone who makes or sells these - any ideas? On that if anyone has seen any pre-fab winamp-type controller boards (play, pause, etc) I would appreciate it.

I'm sure there is more q's to be asked but that will get me going

EDIT: I'm also looking for a mechanical spec/etc. for some of the boards that details the position and size of the back ports if anyone knows where I might be able to get that.

Thanks,
