View Full Version : SN42G2 reseting itself
Back in november time i built a sn42g2 (i think it was that, def amd with nforce and twin vga) for a mate. Apprently hes been having major problems with it reseting itself. It usually did it when it was playing a dvd.
I went round tonight and managed to coax it into regualry crashing when i ran 3dmark. I fiddled with the bios settings, it seemed to be when i had the memory set to 133 rather than 100, and the speed setting as anything but optimal.
Does anyone know what causes this, and how to fix it, as its irritating that the athlon XP2200 has to run at 1350mhz?
I guess you got enaugh power in that psu for that pc.
You can try to change the memory timeing, speed settings.

Hi Dg,
Normally, reboots are caused by voltage being too low.
Whether too low from PSU or from BIOS settings you need to determine.
When voltage to memory is too low, you also get reboots.
Still a voltage problem, me thinks.
What are the rail voltages?
Take care........
Same thing with my shuttle
though Im running a 2000XP in it and actually found the defualt settings to be too high.
Volatage set at 1.85 and it should just be 1.75 also manually set the multiplier to 12.5.
Ill post up if this helps..
Ive tried two different memory sticks and its the same so for now ruling that out!
let me know if u have any success with it.
XP2200+
Athlon XP 2200+ 1.80 GHz (266) 13.5x 1.65V
If your shuttles like mine and defaults at 18.5 then your way over - So it might be - I noticed that the temp in the box dropped alot so maybe it was the extra heat becasue of the higher voltage, that was casuing the issues!
ahh. ill give that a go this evening. thanks very much
Didnt work for me was fine for hours. then as soon as I rebooted it just wouldnt even get half way to loading xp, before resetting over and over.... :(
Try to keep the pc in pause at boot, or in the boot menu.
And see if it resets then or not.
If it doas then it is hardware. If not then it's a driver error.

I didnt even manage to get to try the settings, i couldnt find anything in the bios to let me change the voltages or multiplyer, etc. Only setting i could find was the 100/133/166 for the fsb
On mine its on the right hand side near the save bios changes etc..
Well after all that nothing worked on mine at 133 setting...
so set the clock to 130 and its now stable?!?!
hmm, this is really wierd.
A cpu really should come with the settings u need to use it on a piece of paper to save u hunting the web for ages to find the settings.
Ill take another look, but the computer is a mates at the other side of town, so fiddling with the settings is tricky. Also testing the new settings is difficult as provoking the computer to reboot is hard, the only way i found to do it reliably is to rip a dvd and then run 3dmark.
The voltage, FSB and multiplier settings are all preset on the chip itself, depending on which bridges are joined or cut. Some motherboards allow you to override these. The SN41G2 only allows you to change the FSB speed, so if the bios on there is interpreting the settings wrongly and over-volting everything, then there is not much you can do about it.
I'm loath to suggest updating the bios, in case the machine crashes half way through the reflash.
Cheers,
Stephen

Could be looking at a hardware issue here such as memory or processor over heating.
