View Full Version : Onboard or soundcard
I was just wondering if i should keep using my onboard sound on my A7N8X Deluxe or use my soundblaster platinum 5.1? I have had no problems untill i was playing a game and it sounded a little tinny and when i jumped in the water it made a funny noise instead of a splash.
What does everyone else do?
i use a soundcard. get a audigy card. there excellent. Never had a problem using a sepert card. And its better quality.
i have virtually no money just now so i wont be buying a new one, but i may in the future, i think i will stick it in, cant hurt. cheers
:D using a pci soundcard may give some performance boos as its not hogging your chipset resources as well.
Use the digital out on your mobo - it is far better than the analogue & comparable to an Audigy.
The nVidia APU uses very little CPU resources.
Which nForce audio drivers are you using?
I use my Live 5.1. It was darn cheap but IMO I don't see the difference in quality between this and my mates Audgy 2.

Nah, you won't. The quality differences will come when EAX 2.0 becomes much more common.
And that won't be in sound reproduction, but in effect.
Unfortunately my SB PCI128 doesn't cut it anymore, but the original Audigy's are going quite cheap now-a-days!

16 bit soundblaster or equvelant is plenty for most folks , eax and 5.1 if your a purist would be better only if its got the additional hardware to add something too , ie a set of cambridge works 5.1 speakers or connected to a good seperates system all connected to something bigger than a 19 inch monitor.Even if connected to the correct hardware if placement is wrong (which most folk will be ) it adds nothing more than to make you look a right one
but as usual its horses for courses , ive been doing the gaming thing cross platform since the early 80's(and mono to boot) , home cinema since the early 90's and have had in that time little use for bells and whisltes soundcards , however if i was seriously into games and surround sound i would contemplate headphones for the surround sound , works imo better than overkill and is more personal and ideally suited to the gaming experience and cinema when in front of small screens.
My tuppence is use the onboard , and through the money at upgrading the headphones (if the onboard supports 5.1) , your neighbour , flatmate and significant other will thank you.
