I'm terrible at programming but have you checked the Path's to your java applets? sounds like it can't find a class or applet specified in the code!!

sometimes JAVA still uses %Path% statements. go to a dos prompt and type in "path" at the prompt. You may need to add a path line to your JAVA runtime files!!
What OS you using?
Have you had another version of Java SDK installed on this comp?
as you can guess i'm clutching at straws here too!!!

XP and Java are not the best of friends as I've experienced in the past! I had a super class along with multiple subclasses but when I went to compile the super class at uni (XP) it would say a message similar to yours. However if I ran the exact same code on my own PC (Win98 then) it worked straight away! I was never able to get it to compile at uni altho it ran fine if I compiled it at home then uploaded the .class files back to uni again! My only advice would be to check the Classpath EV although that didnt work for me that time but it has been the cause of many problems in the past.
