Friend of mine sold a PC to somebody he knew, and asked who i would recommend as a cheap ADSL ISP for them to sign up with. I said that i had had no problems whatsoever with Nildram, and that @ £22 per month, i thought the price was good, anyway, to cut a long story short he listened to another guy, and the people who bought the PC signed up with V21. Just spent the last two hours trying to get the flamin' thing to connect to the internet...not a peep, all settings have been checked, double checked and triple checked, time and time again. Its had me tearing my hair out, until we get to the V21 forums whilst browsing for soloutions to 691 errors. Seems that nobody can connect to them consistently, some people will get on fine then lose their connection for days on end...what a pile of steaming turd!. Its seems they blame BT, customers equipment, anything as long as they don't have to admit they are wrong. I know the PC works fine after finding a handy BT ADSL test account to log into...and from looking at the account details, it would seem that they are tied to 2 months with V21 (minimum 1 month contract plus 1 months notice to cancel). Or would it be worth taking this up with Trading Standards, WTF is the point of paying for a 24/7 ADSL connection when you can't get on for five mins...

Take it up with trading standards. And then dumo then switch to another ISP asap.

Ok, now i normally dont reply to ranting posts, but i have to admit, the name V-21 just got me fuming. I hate this dam company!!!

When i first moved out, i needed to get an unmetered dial-up isp. This really was ages ago. After doing some research v-21 seemed ok, £9.99 a month for unmetred dial-up back in those days was very cheap, and the only catch was i get disconnected every 2 hours. Right, i can live with that. So sign up with them, and within the first half hour i was on the fone to customer services to cancel.
For some wierd un-apparent reason i could not connect to any ftp servers, at all. And the line of work i was doing at the time this was completely essential. I couldnt be bothered to find out the reason why i couldnt connect, i just wanted out. I knew that i was still tied to paying for the whole month. But i was assured that it was only that first month i would pay for, and then after that i would be unsubscribed.

Seems that wasn't the case, every month, for the next 6 months i kept seeing this £9.99 being deducted from my bank account. And every month i would fone, and hear the same dribble, "oh we are awfully sorry, this is the last month you will be paying, and we will refund you for the extra months you have been paying." I went through so much crap just to get them to stop taking money from my account, can u believe how much more hassle it was just to get my money back.

Seemed like they changed their terms and conditions with regards to cancelling subscription to their services every month.

Just the mention of v-21 makes my blood boil. Very rarely do i have something to rant about, but this shambles of a company really does bring it out of me, Grrrrr.

Mate, you need to cancel the direct debit on your account, that way they won't be able to take any money out, you should do this with all old direct debits - I had this problem with NTL, I phoned them several times after I moved to have them pick up the cable tv/modem box but they wouldn't and kept threatening to charge me for not having it picked up (!), but anyway for some reason they never changed my address on their systems and kept going to my old address to pick the box up. since they only had my old mobile number to contact me on, after canceling the direct debit, i've never heard from them since :D

A lot of companies are such a pain to deal with, I wish they did trial periods like aol. I think that may be the only good thing that they have ever done... the fact that after the trial you won't be able to remove it from your computer ever is a slight negative consequence lol

Well a lot of the companies do 'Get __ months free' (ntl does 3)...problem is that they usually come attached to a 12 month contract.
