They're reasonably well thought of in the AV community, however they aren't as flexible as the 8-Way E-Pilot Remote Control available for the same price from Maplin.
This allows full programming as well as macros so that with the press of one button, you can (for example) turn on your TV, switch it to a certain channel, then turn on and play your DVD etc)
Richer Sounds have the same model re-badged as "Cambidge Audio" for £59.
Waw, The E-Pilot Looks really cool, But it would be hard to see anything in the dark. or does it light up?

Does it light up!!!!
The whole thing glows a unearthly green!
What's more (you're gonna like this) is that when not used for a minute or two, the screen blanks and the unit goes into standby.
A quick touch on the screen brings it back to life and the screen will light up but ONLY if the ambient light in the room is low.
You get to set the ambient light level at which this function triggers too. Cool huh?
OH GOOOD!
It would have been useless if it didnt light up. im going to buy yours!!!!

I have a Kameleon All for One remote and it is the business. It glows blue and is a wonderful peice of kit to use. Cost me £45 from play.com
The blue light comes on whenever the remote is moved in any way. SO you simply have to nudge it to see the contols o pick it up

before deciding on one I would reccomend that if your have cabel and sat that it works for that stb that you wish , contact the manufacturer of the r.c by email to find out....some stb do not use the iso standard system for i.r.c's.
Seeing as how modding a cool things are discussed on these very pages I would suggest if money was little to no option the philips pronto , the good thing about them is the ability to change just about everything , including macro's , icons and colours, but once again make sure it will work with all your stb equipment.

Something I've been wondering...
If I get an IR reciever for my HTPC, could I set up a custom key layout on one of these remotes, then get Girder or something to control the computer from it?
Then I could have my own perfect HTPC remote, that also controls all my other stuff....
Yes. You just need series of IR codes at your disposal from old remotes to teach the unit for each command.

Cool - I may have to get one when my HTPC gets back up n running (its broke :( ), I wonder why more people haven.t done this instead of buying the limited remotes on offer atm...
The cost of the prontos is the main limiting factor I would imagine, I know it is here ;)
Although a pronto is on my wishlist, and I will get one eventually for this exact reason. :D

which Pronto, there are like 4 different models now ;)
This one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000068TYV/ref%3Dpd%5Fsim%5Fce%5Fdp%5F2/202-4638533-1184622).Based on price to features ratio. Although that may well change by the time I get round to buying one ;)

yer tis nice :)
im a bit of a home cinema nut and have built up a nice lil setup and if you want a touch screen remote go for the pronto i have tried the allin1 remotes and there shocking tbh.
the great thing about the pronto it its extremly easy to customise and has great functions ie ability to make yor own screens etc.
currently mine controlls the whole house it operates 3 different tv's/videos/dvds in different rooms the lighting in my room(s) and all my computers
and you wont believe what else you can do with ........yes you can......get bored during the adverts you can play games..... ;)
