View Full Version : Flash!!
Hi All
I currently own a community on MSN, you know one of thoose easy to use things, like a Fisher Price web site, anyways I have since choose to move to a proper web site. I am no novice to web design, but I really want this site to make a great impact.
I already have bought software that will do really funky flash intros for me, but I was wondering if any of you guys know of anywhere I can get free flash templates, that will allow me to change the text etc in Dreamweaver, and arent all watermarked.
Or if anyone is feeling very kind and would like to make me one?????
Anyways as always all help is hugely apperiated.
Thanks
Rab
Maybe flash kit has some, http://www.flashkit.com/index.shtml
Swish is the easiest way to knock something up in flash quickly ;)

is this site static or dynamic? are you going to want people to interact with it or just admire the flash? not getting all raggo at you personally i just think a site with html and good content is much more appealing then a dead site that looks good.
besides a few years ago it was easy to make a site look and work well in flash, now it's very difficult! trust me i know i used to build them ;) not that flash is harder to implement, it's just that swish is only good for the odd text effect other then that it's years behind flash in general :(
my opinion would be to use a content management system. see sig :p
** Shudders **
I hate flash.
Oh and next year, anyone with a flash site is gonna have troubles when the new version of IE (6.1) comes out. M$ have tightened privacy which has resulted in inline HTML objects no being allowed to load content into themselves without the visitors say so.
In the case of Flash, the Flash plugin is the object and your flash movie gets loaded into the Flash object, meaning the visitor has got wade through warning notices before the page gets loaded.
I had a link about this, but i've lost it.
Wow, Microsoft are actually releasing an update for Internet Explorer? Do you know if it'll update support for CSS 2?
AFAIK the current IE 6 does support CSS 2 are you having problems with it splatty?
No, I didn't mean it doesn't support it, just that it doesn't support everything that CSS can do particuarly well.
Visit [the awesome] http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/ in a Gecko browser, then visit it in IE6, and you'll see the problems.
It's a pain, because things like this (http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/complexspiral/demo.html) don't work nicely in IE, but work in other browsers, but because most of the world uses IE, it discourages people from using fancy CSS in their websites.
If MS finally released an IE update that updated CSS support, the Internet could take a step forward in the means of CSS.
I see what your saying now.
Well most browsers are built on the open source mozilla browser code base, which actually makes 90% of browsers 100% compatabile with each other.
Unfortunately, M$ built their own version which has a 90% monopoly of the browser market. This is purely cos they built it into windows.
M$ should move to the mozilla code base (Yeah, Right!) for IE we're always gonna have to compromize. That example can be achieved in IE, just not using pure CSS. I feel this will have to be fixed soon. M$ are not producing IE on the Mac anymore, mac users will use safari (built on mozilla) so developers will have to start developing for mozilla first.
Wouldnt it be great if, anyone developing HTML applications had to use a common code base?
Yeah that would be awesome :D
tbh firebox is the fastest most stable browser ive tested. find it on mozilla site.

I've been writing in Flash/Dreamweaver (currently MX) for a few years now. I'm not really sure what you want/meaning??? If you give more specifics then could possibly point you in the right direction.
or this thread is like 6 months old......
But, it is good of him to want to help someone out with his first post!
