I've been asked by my parents to come up with a new PC for them for use in a new study they are putting together. They've got another PC which I've built them previously but they want this new one to be silent so they can get as much peace as possible in their new study.

I've already got some bits and pieces laying around which I was planning on using...
- MSI nForce 2 motherboard
- XP1800+ CPU
- Crucial DDR RAM
- GF2MX (Passive)

So if I needed to get all the remaining components to make it as silent as possible, what would you choose?

What really I'm looking for is...
- Case
- PSU
- CPU Cooler
- Hard Drive
- any other fans needed

The budget I'm aiming at for these is £300 but could go up to £400 if it was going to be REALLY quiet.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thanks.

Whats this omp going to be used for?

If you want total silence use and passive epia (the M6000) and get a cubid case and morex psu.

Silence.

Its going to be used for a number of different tasks. None overly stressful besides some photo-retouching but I want to use up the existing parts which I have laying around.

Case Err, if you really want a sound proof case with a little style go for http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=1049

This power supply is really quiet. http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=1707

As for CPU cooler: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=2674

Hard Drive http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=6222

The less case fans you have the better.

HDD: For my money, if I wanted silence I'd go for the Seagate Barracuda IV (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/product.php?view=6203 ). The fluid bearings make it genuinely silent (unless my hearing's gone!)

The equivilant 60GB Maxtor drive is cheaper and also comes with fluid bearings so is very quiet.
