just brought a m reg astra .. and its runs fine .. but the engin has got 9 years of crap on it .. wanted to buff it up and getting it looking a bit better i have been recomend a steam clean ... would you guys agree

yes. but do not get water in with the electrics for obvious reasons. cover things like distributor, fuse box, starter motor.......

don't sand blast it by mistake :)

lol oops that would make a mess ... i was told to keep the engin running wile i do this it cauese the water to evaperate

Yeah, keep the engine running and also keep a tin of WD40 ready. If it starts missing at all while your cleaning it give the HT leads and dizzy a quick spray.

I would not recomend power washing the engine whilst its running, You might spray water or water might get sucked into airfilter. you cannot compress a liquid, net result is what is know as hydraulic lock and a possible bent con rod or worse :(
fasten a plastic bag over any openings into engine ( airfilter etc) and clean it, leave it to drip and spray it with wd40 or similar
