What are people's views on the Ipod ???

They are damm expensive compare to the Creative Zen 30Gb NX, £220 @ Komplett verses £250 for 10Gb IPod

Ebay are selling 10Gb for £150 (new model) from the US, only problem is that I am not sure if Apple UK will honor a US warrenty, anyone got any experience of this ???

they are the best hard drive based mp3 player out there

thats my opinion
the look nice and have good functionality

and ive i had the money and needed a personal music player (dont at the mo), i would buy one in a heart beat

if you do a search on the forums
there was discussion before about where to get them
and gettign them from ebay.com imported to the country
maybe check that thread out

arhh... this is my subject.

i bought a second generation ipod off ebay from the states just before the new one came out for £120 including postage.

anyway, i came back off holiday and plugged it into the computer to update some songs yet nothing happened and there was a nasty burning smell. for some reason it would no longer link with a pc.
phoned apple uk up and they sorted out getting a replacement as the ipod was still in warrantee. it was a global warrantee so it makes no difference to them what country you are calling form. it is an apple product, so they deal with it no matter what, as long as it's less than a year old.

couldn't live without it now, best bit of kit i own. though to be honest i still prefer the older style ipod over the new one and the bundled earphones are pants no matter what model.

Just noticed in the small print that international customers, can only pay by wire transfer or prepayment !!!

Blast these stupid eyes !!!

Anyone got any experience of wire transfer, likely fee for sending £150 ???

Anyone seen the new black Philips Ipod competitor? It looks just stunning and can hardware encode MP3s from any source and do voice recordings ect. Nice bit of kits - prices at £350 for the 15 gig version though.

Try Philips.co.uk and go from there.

A friend bought the 3rd gen one back from the States.

I'm very impressed with it, I love the jog wheel on it, and the way the menus are categorised by artist/album etc. It certainly is an improvement on my RioVolt.

The screen is very good, and it isn't too cluttered with too much info.

The music quiz game is really addictive, quite a nice touch. The size of the player is quite comfortable too.

I haven't used the newer Creative player or any other competing ones, so I don't know exactly how different they are in terms of usability etc. Dell have launched their iPod rival, might be worth checking that out too.

i like mine sooo much. i just bought an itrip for it as a present. its a small transmitter that fits on top and broadcasts your music to any fm radio.

signal is a bit week for my liking, so naturally i am modding it a bit with a cool looking mini aerial. i'll show you when its finished.

i assume you know but just in case those iTrip's have been banned in the uk and being caught using one carrys the same punishment as operating a pirate radio station. stupid when you consider the range of it but thats the .gov.uk for you.

yeah i know. stupid isn't it.
it's around 30 foot in range so the only way they will catch me is if i just happen to drive past a copper with some sort of scanner. i doubt they will do anything about it anyway.

have you heard the stories about the ipod's battery only lasting 18 months or so then just dieing. And apparently they are irreplaceable.

lambbuster
15-12-2003, 20:09
*apparently* they are replacable, but there is a charge.

but who cares about paying to have the battery replacement, its such a fine piece of hardware :D

Mojo
15-12-2003, 20:35
Well even if theya re replaceable, if i had paid between 300 and 400 quid for an MP3 player i'd expect the battery to last more than a year and a half!!

it's only a handful of ipods that have this problem. it doesn't mean if you by an ipod it will only last 18 months before you have to throw it out
